This is our 2nd dinner at Aye Toro. Our 1st dinner was one week after opening. We dined at the outside patio, service was prompt but not rushed, friendly staff and food was good. We returned last night knowing alcohol is now served. No one was dining at the patio because alcohol was only served inside. The atmosphere was loud and service appeared chaotic. Our server struggled with English, so I used a translation app to speak Spanish. It was apparent that the bar was anticipating that most would order margaritas. Pre-made mixture with small amount of tequilla in oversized glasses. I watched the servers bringing additional shots of tequilla to several tables as people poured them into their margaritas. We ordered chicken fajitas and chili rellenos. The chicken was over cooked with most of my chicken in shivraled burnt pieces. My side dish was supposed to have lettuce, rice, beans and sour cream. No sour cream, just a vertical drizzle over the lettuce. The chili rellenos were sopping in a cream sauce and the quality of the chilis were so thin, they fell apart and tasteless. Servers appeared rushed and chaotic with dishes being cleared and disposed in a rolling bin very loudly. Food from previous tables were left on floor and not swept up. It was an awful experience. There was plenty of wait staff but we felt rushed and frustrated trying to communicate with our server. This was not a late dining. It was 6pm. Never returning. Really disappointed and I hope management reads this review. Train staff, slow down and take pride in cooking enteees. Most of all make real margaritas, not the ones you would buy at a Carnival. ...
Read moreMy husband and I had lunch here today. This is a new restaurant in Brunswick Forest in Leland. I've been to the one in Wilmington several times. The food is always good along with great customer service. I can say the same thing for this place.
When we arrived, almost all of the tables were filled. The bar (I counted 18 bar stools) were empty. We were seated in a booth near the bar, but asked to move to the bar because the spacing at the booth was pretty tight. The other booths looked to have more space.
We were given a basked of chips and fresh-made salsa. Not spicy, but flavorful.
I ordered the lunch flautas, which were filled with chicken and topped with melted queso, lettuce, and a side of rice and beans. I meant to ask for black beans, as I'm not a fan of re-fried beans (but they were good).
My husband had a steak burrito from the a la carte menu. He said it was very good.
I had a glass of wine with my meal. I asked for a Pinot Grigio, but they didn't have any, so I had a Sauvignon blanc.
Jose was our server and he was very nice.
There is outside seating with many tables. However, you cannot order alcohol at this time, only if you dine inside. How crazy is that!? I hope they get their license soon.
We're glad to have Aye Toro in...
Read moreWe have long anticipated this restaurant opening and have certainly heard good things. Unfortunately, my experience tonight was not one of those. The hostess took us to our table and not one word. The gentleman brought the chips and salsa and smacked them on the table… not one word. I thought perhaps they don’t speak English. We ordered Margaritas and chose the one not made from a mix. It was good… orange in color with an orange slice on it but am pretty sure it was lime in flavor which is what was ordered. My husband had the enchilada and he said they were just ok not a lot of flavor. I ordered one of their burritos that was one of their recommended items. It was to be beef, onion, rice cheese. It came with French Fries which I thought was a bit strange at a Mexican restaurant. The food came out quickly … probably because the burrito was lacking the ingredients except for the meat. It was steak strips that had been done in a skillet with a flour gravy. It was then put in the burrito. Terrible. I did bring it to the attention of the server who apologized. That was it! We paid the bill and decided there are other places to try. The first bad meal we have...
