Yummi Yummi — Restaurant in Leland

Based on recent reviews and some bad ratings 5 months ago, I thought I would give this restaurant a chance. I ordered General Tso Chicken, Beef Broccoli and a spring roll. I placed order at 6:38pm and was told it would be 25 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes later to see a line of eight people waiting outside for their order. The "system" is to walk up to the door and talk into a window and give your telephone number. Once I did that, I was asked to pay and wait. As each order was ready the server would place the ticket up against the window and we would each have to read it to figure out whose order it was. It was quite entertaining. It was 7:45pm when customers after me were receiving their order that I questioned about my order. 5 minutes later it appeared. The food was warm, but the General Tso Chicken was over cooked and chewy and my husband said the Beef Broccoli was o.k. but the spring roll was terrible. I don't know why this restaurant was given such raving reviews or people are just too lazy to drive 10 minutes into Wilmington. I would not recommend this restaurant. Granted, it is the "Pandemic" and we are all trying to help out local businesses but it is evident that the food isn't getting prepared until you arrive and pay. Then set up a pre-pay system. DoorDash delivered, therefore I didn’t rate service or atmosphere, just the food. If I could have I would’ve rated the food 2 1/2 stars. I ordered Chicken and Broccoli, it came with an Egg Roll. The chicken was undercooked, and somewhat slimy. I like my broccoli crisp but this was way under cooked! I had to deconstruct the entire dish into three piles, chicken, broccoli, and pork fried rice. I put the chicken pieces in a small frying pan with a little oil and lightly browned them. In a separate bowl I cooked the broccoli about a minute or two until it was crisp-tender. The pork fried rice was good, just needed to be warmed up. I then reassembled and served. This somewhat improved the outcome. I resent the fact that I had to put all this extra effort into cooking. I might as well have cooked it from scratch myself! I don’t think I’ll be ordering from Yummi Yummi again, although The pork fried rice was actually pretty good! I use to frequent here once a week every week with my husband before he deployed and I hadn’t been and was craving Chinese so I went and it looks like it is under new management or something I wasn’t greeted and the place was a little dirty so I assume it must be because six months ago when I frequently visited it was alway so tidy and friendly but I ignored those signs and Ordered egg drop soup and some shrimp lomein got home and the soup was dark orange and greasy and sadly my shrimp was also greasy to the point of slimy and tasted funky and smelled off, didn’t want to get sick so I threw it away I called them to inform them of the situation and they told me it is supposed to be that way and I didn’t know what I was talking about and hung up, I would of never been spoken to like this before so that another reason I’m assuming new management...I was so disappointed this was one of my husbands and I favorite spots to visit but the silver lining is I went to the Jade Garden on the other side of Leland and ordered the same thing and it was fantastic and fresh and...
