This place feels and looks like what you would expect from a country club restaurant. Overlooking the greens and right next to the members only pool. Warm and inviting inside and a very polite and interactive staff, a plus! Going into this local farm to table experience I knew that the price point was above avg and expected the plates and serving sizes to be in line with that. My wife got the bacon cheese burger with a side of lyonnaise potatoes. My son got the kids burger with fruit and a free scoop of ice cream to boot. I went with the short rib and red shrimp plate and subbed the risotto for lyonnaise potatoes as well. Starting with the great, my wife’s burger. She said it was moist and perfectly cooked! Topping it off were nice thick heavenly slices of bacon that made their presence know and her heart skip a beat!! The lyonnaise potatoes on both our dishes were phenomenal, who doesn’t love a plate of skillet potatoes cooked in butter. My son throroughly gobbled up his burger and I managed a small fork full to try it and it had a great crust and nice seasoning that I woulda loved eating more of had the chance arose but my son takes after his dad and well there were but crumbs left when the dust settled. Now on to my dish...I mentioned I loved the potatoes and I really did...all six slices... listen I get it this isn’t the Golden Corral but six slices of potato was disappointing given how delicious they were. Now the short rib was tender and fell apart when encountering my fork and was everything you want and need from a fatty rich meat, yes I’m starting to drool slightly. The other cast member of my plate was the red shrimp. Again I feel like two pieces of shrimp is a bit light. For what seemed like an interpretation of a surf and turf plate around four pieces of shrimp would make more sense and add balance to the various proteins on the plate. They seemed like an afterthought in both quantity and taste, nothing to write home about. In fact I woulda gladly traded the shrimp for more potatoes or even another piece of short rib. All in all service was great ambience was country clubby (not in a bad way) and the food was good with some definite highlights including the burger and short rib. If your next meal is gonna be here set expectations and you won’t be disappointed. Will I go back...the amount of plates containing various fried chicken dishes I saw leave the kitchen to various tables in the dining room tells me I should probably come back and try that dish before making a decision as to whether or not to include it on my eatery routing. We shall see...
**update I made it back to try the fried chicken! My word!! The fact that the chicken is fried in animal fat and not seed/corn oils makes it that much better. I can’t believe how good this dish was. I did alter the chicken entree 86’d the chicken salad and Brussels and added sticky rice and lyonnaise potatoes. So the newly added pic is now what you would get by default. The chicken is everything you want and more in fried chicken. Seriously I am having a hard time trying to get it out of my head. No wonder everyone around me on my first visit had a plate of this chicken. A not so secret star of the menu. Do it and if you need company I’ll come with, any opportunity to get my taste buds back to...
Read moreLong one, but an honest one. Last night we went to Silo Farmhouse for our friend’s birthday dinner. First time experience for all of us. We were taken to a private room. Which honestly, thank you for! We are a loud bunch && we appreciate a more intimate space. We decided against the 2025 KC Restaurant week menu. As soon as I saw the Tomahawk, I asked my friend if he would split it with me. Without hesitation he agreed. He’s had them before, it would be my first time. But I’ve always wanted to try it. My sister order the crab && lobster crab cakes. Absolutely amazing! She said it was the only thing she enjoyed. She also had a ribeye that she was not happy with. Wanted to get a bottle of wine to go with our meal. Again my friend was being very supportive of my idea to go all out last night. I was instantly drawn to the Marchesi di Barolo an Italian wine but there was little information on it. We went for a sample of the château Bordeaux but it was very dry. We asked Solymar for more info on the Italian wine. She was amazing. Kind && patient with us. We are happy she was the server we got last night. Ultimately we went with the Italian wine && it was amazing. We finished it rather quickly. Dinner came. First was the Caesar salad. Presentation was amazing. But the dressing was not it. Presentation was beautiful on the tomahawk. There was a gentleman that was nice enough to have it all cut up for us too. That first bite into that tomahawk was a sad realization. My parents are caterers. I hate to say I’m picky. But a good steak isn’t hard to make. Salt, pepper, grill. This thing was I believe the menu said 21 day dry age. I’ve had dry age meat before. This did not have that same flavor profile. Also there was no seasoning on that steak. It was just the charring from the grill we had to taste. Like I said, very underwhelming. Something I thought would be the highlight of my night, ended up being the most disappointing part. The silo steak sauce was not a sauce either it was like a gelatin of some sort. Oh && the mash potatoes….why were they sour. Asparagus was amazing. I had never had something as simple as steak && potatoes taste so wrong. We didn’t want to make a stink about it. It’s our friend’s birthday. But I looked up at my friend && told him, this isn’t it. && he instantly agreed. Dinner was followed by our friends slice of chocolate birthday cake which was very good. Overall we had an amazing night. We appreciate the atmosphere && the service. Drinks && dessert were amazing. But the food was the main item I...
Read moreI recently visited Silo Modern Farmhouse to celebrate my best friend's birthday, and while the setting and food held promise, the overall experience left much to be desired.
To start on a positive note, the lobster and crab cakes were flavorful and well-prepared—definitely a highlight of the evening. I also tried the cast iron Lyonnaise potatoes and broccolini, both solid sides that paired nicely with the seafood. Surprisingly, the fries from the kids’ menu (my son had the chicken tenders) were some of the best I tasted that evening.
Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. Upon arrival, I felt a glimmer of excitement when I was warmly directed to the birthday party table. However, that was the only moment I sensed the hospitality one hopes for in a celebratory dining experience.
Having worked in the restaurant industry myself, I understand the challenges that come with handling large parties. However, our server seemed noticeably disengaged. Throughout the night, I only saw her a handful of times, and each encounter felt rushed and unenthusiastic. Basic questions—like which non-alcoholic drinks were available, or what juice options were offered for kids—were met with uncertainty. I even had to go to the bar myself to get my son a juice that never arrived with his meal. His kids' meal was also supposed to include a dessert, which was never brought out—or acknowledged.
While I did notice other staff members checking on our table (and I appreciated the team effort), it was clear the assigned server was not up to the task of managing a large party. If a gratuity is automatically added for large groups, I believe it’s only fair that it reflect the contributions of the entire team—not just the primary server.
One other issue worth mentioning: the lack of communication around splitting the check for the group. While not every restaurant has a formal policy, it’s common courtesy to inform the host or party planner if checks will be combined or split a specific way, especially for a large table. It’s frustrating to be charged for items you didn’t order.
In short, Silo Modern Farmhouse has potential—good food and a lovely location—but my recent visit didn’t live up to expectations. I hope this was an off night, but I’m not sure I’ll return anytime soon.
Best for: Small tables, casual dining, and maybe not ideal for larger groups—unless service...
