I was in town and looking for a great breakfast and reviews looked promising. I was going to get my food as takeout to go back to our hotel. I called and the lady who answered greeted me and then I placed my order. I saw on the menu corn beef hash and that looked like a nice switch up from the usual bacon or sausage. She suggested that I order my waffle as a breakfast plate with eggs, hash browns, and corn beef hash because it would be less expensive this way than to get my waffle and a side of corn beef hash. I thanked her for the suggestion and ordered a fruity waffle and a chocolate peanut butter waffle with the eggs, hash browns, and corn beef hash. She told me it would be ready in 20 min.
When I arrived the place was very busy and there was a sign on the door asking for patience because they can only serve at 50% capacity. I walked in and every single table was full, not a single front end employee was masked, yet curiously all of the cook staff were masked. I guess their concern of covid spreading is limited to food prep staff and not the wait staff. Also, the only customers that were masked were those waiting for take out. Obviously, masks are not expected when eating, but no one even had one with them when they left. Maybe customers felt confidence based on the service staff being unmasked. I realize we are seeing covid numbers begin to decline, but the staff and the restaurant being at 100% capacity seems unwise and that it's asking for a future problem.
The food was bagged nicely with condiments and I got it about 35 min after I ordered it.
When I got to the hotel and started to eat. I opened the container with the corn beef hash and it looked exactly like the Hormel canned hash and tasted like it too. I was very disappointed. I'm glad the order taker suggested I get the combo plate, because if I had paid the menu price of $3.50 and was given Hormel canned hash, I would have been even more disappointed. The hash browns were flavorless and the eggs were basic.
The waffles were definitely the highlight and what bumped them up to 3 stars for me. My peanut butter waffle was very good and the flavor of the waffle was very good and was not lost in the flavor of peanut butter and chocolate. The fruity waffle was topped with previously frozen strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries and whipped cream. Although defrosted fruit is not ideal, it was flavourful and I'm glad it wasn't the weird gelatin fruit goo that many restaurants use. My son loved his waffle.
Go to Waffles and more for the Waffles and not for "the more". Just please make sure you are healthy and don't have covid before going since the management doesn't seem to care about the liability an outbreak can be for their business. It makes me wonder what other health corners are being cut when they throw caution to the wind...
Read moreWas there on Dec 26, floor was covered with food walking to our table. Waitress was inattentive. Wife had to request coffee twice when she was told they had no blackberry iced tea. Then finally I had to request coffee for her from another waitress who did finally bring coffee slammed cup down on table so hard I'm surprised it didn't break. I can sympathise with other waitress getting annoyed having to pick up the slack for someone else. However she needed to take out her anger on her lazy coworker not the customer for making a simple request. As far as the food Sausages tasted like the cheap disgusting pre cooked ones, Hash browns can be found at Walmart French toast was bland. In short nothing to justify prices charged for substandard food. Lastly after food was brought to table Wife told me I had spilled syrup on my wool dry clean only jacket problem was I hadn't even touched my waffle but did track down source syrup was all over the underside of the plate with eggs and hashbrowns. Waitress poured syrup all over the arm of my coat and it ultimately got all over table before being noticed all in all a big mess. So thank you Waffles and more for the overpriced meal,. poor service and future dry cleaning bill. Should have gotten the name of the young lady you had walking around refilling coffee. Don't even think she was a waitress. Possibly a trainee, she was the only one who was polite in the joint and the only one...
Read moreThis place has the best waffles and breakfast. The first time I went there I couldnt have asked for better. However this last time I went i was a bit disappointed. They told us about a 25 minute wait.. was more like a 60 minute wait to just get sat. Then sat another 15 before a server even came to greet us. I had asked the hostess for two more adult menus as the kids were not feeling the kids menus and never got them. I also observed the high school friends come in and get preferential treatment over other paying guests. I could be mistaken if this place takes reservations... but in the time I was sitting there I seen the hostess girls see their friends and seat them right away over people who were just behind us in the 45 minute wait. I also observed a conversation about the friend discount... which whatever.. don't concern me... but found that the conversation of 10 plus minutes between them when there were people lined up behind them waiting to get on the wait list or be sat was a bit unprofessional. The food was amazing and worth the wait tho. Just be prepared to wait if you go there on a...
