I’m very disappointed that I’m having to write a review like this, because I honestly did not expect this type of treatment from a local Lexington restaurant that I’ve been to and supported on multiple occasions. My sister, father and I decided to go to Josie’s for a Father’s Day brunch. As I approached the hostess, I was not greeted which at the time I didn’t think anything of, because it was very busy during our visit. I told her how many people would be attending and proceeded to wait outside until I received a text message. We ordered our drinks and lunch and everything was fine. I then called the waitress over and requested three to-go boxes and the bill. In a matter of seconds she came back and handed us the boxes and the bill. My sister decided to pay for the food, to which I agreed, because I was in a rush to get to work on time anyway. We all got up together and left after packing up our food. On my way to work I receive a call from a very angry and verbally abusive lady. She told me that I needed to come back to the restaurant ASAP, because nobody at the table paid the bill. Obviously I was unaware of this and tried to explain to her that it was an honest mistake and that I will get in touch with my family so they can go back and pay the bill. However she never actually let me speak and instead proceeded to threaten me with reporting me to the police if I don’t come back right away and pay the bill. She made it very clear that she wasn’t interested in what I had to say by yelling and screaming at me like she has no sense. She never gave me a chance to even speak or explain to her that I will get in touch with my sister who would then go back and pay the bill. My sister then informed me that after paying the bill over the phone, she requested to speak to the manager who then hung up on her, also refusing to hear her out. Not only was her tone and her approach extremely unprofessional, her accusations were completely inappropriate and uncalled for. As a restaurant manager, you should know that threatening to call the police on a customer who made a honest mistake should never be your first resort. The measures this lady took were simply unnecessary and it could’ve easily been handled in a professional and civil manner. It saddens me even more that she felt the need to go this far, given the current climate in this country. I can’t help but feel that this was a direct result of her explicit bias. Fortunately this restaurant will not be getting another dime from me and I really hope that this person will be held accountable for her horrible actions. I would hate for this to happen to...
Read moreHad a great experience at Josie's. First of all, when you arrive on a weekend, its probably right to anticipate a 25-30 minute wait. However, this is not an issue, because they provide you with coffee outside in a heated patio for the cold weather.
The host booth could have been more accommodating, and what I mean by that is that I was under the impression my family was already there when I arrived, so asked the host if she had seated three girls recently. However, she responded with "There are a lot of women here, you can look around and see". I get the idea, but I was just looking for some help as I had not been here before and wasn't familiar with the dining layout.
Our server was incredible, very helpful with the menu and knowledgeable. She kept our coffee hot, and brought our food out in a timely manner. Personally, I got the Chevy Chase, which was two eggs, meat (I got goetta, a rare find in Lexington and a welcome one), cheese grit casserole, which was amazing, and a biscuit with a side of gravy. The Eggs were plain but cooked well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the grits and the goetta. I also enjoyed the homemade biscuit with gravy, which was slightly spiced to add a kick of flavor to the traditional breakfast style. This was welcomed and tasted great!
One of the most unique things about Josie's was the homely feel. I felt like I was at my mammaw's house due to the different coffee cups and almost family-style décor. I felt like this was the best aspect of the restaurant, and likely is one of the reasons it is so beloved on Lexington.
You should expect to spend about $20 a person for breakfast, depending on what you get. Drinks were on the pricier side, with Tea at $3 and Coffee a little higher, and the meal is $15 or so per person, depending on what you get. Tip of 20% puts the meal price to 20-30 per person.
Overall, I would recommend Josie's to friends and family and would like to revisit to try some other items. I will likely be buying some of the packaged products as well, such as the Pimento Cheese and Chicken Salad, as they looked great from what my family...

However, as excited as I was to learn this, there is one BIG and unfortunate caveat for my fellow omelette connoisseurs out there.
And that’s this.
Both the menu and the waitress explained that “Omelet preparation can NOT be changed during peak periods on Saturdays and Sundays”
Meaning if you see an omelette but it has an ingredient you want to omit or add, there is no customizing on the weekends. Bummer.
In spite of that, I gave the Veggie Omelet a try. It comes filled with fresh broccoli, roasted red peppers, onions, baby spinach, tomatoes and cheddar jack cheese.
To me, the omelette was okay, it was just a tad undercooked. And I didn’t get that nutritious taste I was looking for from a veggie omelette.
All omelets are served with breakfast potatoes or cheese grit casserole and a biscuit.
The breakfast potatoes were fine but primarily filling. No distinct or outstanding seasoning to them.
The biscuit was good. It was soft, fluffy, and a little buttery.
Overall the food got the job done, but I would be more inclined to try something else on the menu than reorder what I had.
For the dining room, there is a unique layout. Plenty of spacious booths for families and groups.
The cool and unexpected design fixture was the large horseshoe shaped counter near the entrance.
Although unique, I wouldn’t recommend sitting there if you’re anywhere close to six feet tall. That’s because the counter overhang was fairly shallow. You almost have to take a horse stance to sit comfortably. Irony
Overall, Josie’s is a family friendly neighborhood restaurant that offers common American bites at...
