This is such a great park! We only had a short amount of time in the morning as we were just passing through town but it was worth the couple hour detour to burn off some energy. The pool area is fenced in, enclosed, with one entrance to come in and leave from where you'll find the bathrooms as well. In the center of the pool is a pirate ship that has multiple slides and entry points with a depth of 2 feet around the structure so kids can easily stand. On each side of the pool is a separate pool, one is a lap pool with a greater depth and the other has two diving boards and a climbing wall.
After spending an hour at the pool, we went over to the playground area. It's nicely laid out so you can view all of it from a central point. That way, the kids can play and you can sit on a bench or feel free to get up and run with 'em! There's a picnic area there, too, so it makes it a nice place to stop for morning play and then lunch.
The only downside to the experience was one of the team members that was working wasn't in the best mood and made us feel unwelcome at first. Fortunately, the kids weren't phased too long and we had a great time!
If we're ever in the area again, we'll be...
Read moreWoodland park is a great free place to go with friends or family in Lexington. There’s a wide variety of things to do such as going to the park, the pool during summer, skatepark, and walking trails, it even hosts events and festivals sometimes. My favourite things to do at the park are walking around the trails and playing on the playground. There is beautiful scenery all throughout the park, many flowers during the spring and summer and lots of leaves falling from the many trees throughout the park during fall. It is a great way to get your steps in while having a calming view. The park hosts a variation of attractions and obstacle courses such as slides and a small rock climbing wall for little ones. There are also spaces to gather and host events such as a cook-out, or birthday party as they have long lunch tables covered with roofs all throughout the park. Last but not least my favourite thing about the park is that it's pet-friendly, which is good to know if you're new, so feel free to bring your...
Read moreWell my 4yo loves the jungle gym here and it’s just adventurous enough to not scare me too bad but challenge him. Plus it’s worth the bus ride to play in the shade, WHICH IS IN SHORT SUPPLY AT OTHER COMMUNITY PARKS! You hear me Fayette County Parks and Recreation?!? Gainesway Park needs some more shade badly. I’m sure we’re not the only ones. I understand that the older the park the more shade it will have but I don’t see enough being done to create shade in the future at these newer parks. Many, many more trees need to be planted and nurtured to produce the kind of parks people can stand to be in come summer. Walk thru many poorer neighborhoods and you are lucky to find shade at all. Then you get to woodland and there’s an abundance of it. Despite my apparent resentment… this respite in this urban oven is appreciated. And the wading pool for kids here is a great way to spend a summer day. Just wish these shade rich respites were more equitably...
