Neon Moon Bar & Lounge — Restaurant in Lexington

Hi, my name is Loki, and I used to come to this bar with my fiancee and our friend, E. This has been our regular hangout for quite some time now, and everybody has been extremely awesome and courteous in our previous visits, including the wonderful bartender and skilled DJ setting up the vibe. However, this previous Thursday the 3rd, going into the 4th, before we left the venue upon closing, E was discriminated against due her sexual identity. This happened as she went to use the restroom, as she has previously been able to do so with no issues from any other staff, but that night there was an older man in the room behind the bar who didn't say anything to our friend until the bartender had left. She asked if she could use the restroom before they closed, to which the man said she wasn't allowed to. E then argued that she had rights and was, in fact, allowed to use the restroom. The man responded with "Yeah whatever, just use the transgender restroom at the very back." But for context, there was no restroom other than the mens, implying this man didn't care and was purposely being spiteful towards her. As my friend E and a new friend from the bar went to leave the restroom, this man told her she wasn't allowed back on the premises because she didn't use the "right" restroom. He purposely waited to belittle and harass our friend, and due to this incident unfortunately we no longer want to come to this spot if that could be the case to happen again. I just want to reiterate that none of the other staff members, aside from that one specific person, had ever harassed us or our group before this event. Due to the nature of the event, I wanted to write this review as a warning to others who may be trans. We came to this venue as it was advertised to us as LGBT+ friendly, and I would hate to have this incident happen again to another patron when this kind of harassment can be avoided. If there were negative numbers, I’d give Neon Moon Bar a -10. My boyfriend tried to organize a disco themed karaoke birthday party for me there (for 30+ people). He left messages multiple times with no response. When he called the “owner”, their voicemail was full. I left a message thru their FB page with no reply. On Friday Aug 22nd, he called the bar and spoke with bartender/manager?, who cussed him out for calling again, and hung up on him!!! Needless to say, our party will be at another karaoke bar, but just wanted others to know how rude and obnoxious the bar tender/manager is. They’re in the wrong...

My boyfriend and I have been here a total of 2 times. We live in Georgia, often have to drive to Michigan, and make Lexington our half way point. Each time we have come, we have been welcomed with open arms and Morgan, the bartender is the bomb diggity. Our most recent visit they added on to their bar and it is even more welcoming.

Highly recommend if you want that welcoming, home town dive bar...
