I kept on going by this place and thinking, "dang I want to go in there but no time or no money!"One day I was starving and I was driving by and had to go somewhere else but my intuition told me I better just go in and try it and boy I was so glad I did! The staff and owners were amazingly friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world delicious. They had an amazing salsa bar and I'm literally drooling thinking about this place as I write this. If you like Mexican food, real, delicious, authentic, beautiful Mexican food, you gotta try this place!
Update. I went in two more times and the food was subpar, not even that. The campechana I got was watered down severely and not much of anything in it but paid full price even though I mentioned the lack of ingredients and the consistency of the Clamato base...Fell on deaf ears.
The other time I got the chile rellenos and they were pretty bad as well. The peppers were very bitter as if they were old and they were poblanos with very little cheese in them, lots of seeds like there was no care in the preparation of them. The batter fell off the chile when barely touched because they weren't dredged in flour before being put in the batter and the salt and pepper shakers all felt like they had a couple years of funk on them when you picked them up so not sure if you should go wash your hands or not. She did come ask me how the food was though, I thought that was nice but she didn't care to give me a discount or tell the cook that the food was bad so it was kind of like.."oh well! didn't like it? get out!" I won't be back. There are plenty of restaurants in town that actually care about the quality of their food and will prepare it how it's supposed to be prepared instead of take shortcuts and have it reflect in their cuisine. A little disrespectful of your own joint and of your national cuisine, I would...
Read moreCame here on recommendation of the lady at the Dorothy House museum. It was okay. I mean, the service was great (granted, I was the only one there) and the food came out quickly. The waitress/counter person was extremely friendly and accommodating.
The interior was clean, which I appreciate, but bordering on gaudy-chic. But, this wasn't a fine dining establishment and I wasn't on a date, so, no big deal.
The food wasn't bad, but it didn't knock my socks off either. When I say that, please consider that I have lived in Texas, AZ and CO; and have been to both NM and old Mexico multiple times. So, I'm pretty picky about Mexican food.
I may, or may not, return here if Im back...
Read moreVery good food and delicious tacos. I was in Liberal, Kansas for the first time recently, and hadn't any idea where to find good Mexican food. I decided to try Taquería El Gallo de Jalisco after going to several other places. The food was great. Definitely more authentic, compared to the other Mexican restaurants that I went to in Liberal.
The food was prepared well with good flavor. I especially recommend their tacos. But the enchiladas and agua frescos are good too. As is their salsa rojo(red). The waitress provided good...
