Note: For any restaurant to get 5-Stars from me, everything on my plate and the service has to be perfect.
Dropped in for a late lunch while on the road after delivering a tractor so I was hungry and ready to eat.
I had the moist sliced brisket sandwich, cowboy beans, and tea.
This is some real good "Texas" brisket. It's smokey, exquisite and perfectly salted very flavorful bark on this sumptuously juicy tender beef. Word - delicious!
The cowboy beans are tender and well seasoned. I tasted little bits of ham and other minced goodness. They reminded me a little bit of the seasoning in Cajun red beans. But not at all spicy. And a little TexMex. They're simply fantastic. They were barely warm though. But still very good.
Fresh slightly sweet tea was delicious. Condiments to die for. Slightly pink pickled sliced onions. Oh man! And wonderful crisp, not too sour, pickles.
The BBQ sauce is tangy slightly sweet awesomeness!! Not at all spicy. But oh so good. Just yum!!
The location is unlike most dingy BBQ joints. This place is light, airy, and bright inside. It's awesome. Everything is sparkling clean, including the unisex restrooms. Nice large backyard with picnic tables under shade trees. Sweet!
Friendly, helpful, accommodating staff. Very pleasant.
It saddened me to remove one star. The reasons?
1). The bun for my sliced beef sandwich was cold. But fresh. Had the brisket been hot then the cold bun would have warmed up. I love good brisket hot or cold. So the fact it was just warm didn't bother me in the slightest. But the following did bug me. 2.) The cowboy beans were not much warmer than the bun. Sorry, pinto beans need to be steaming hot.
Bottom line, the cold bun and barely warm beans will not deter me from returning.
Oh, they have several dessert items in a cup ready to go. I'll try one next time.
My visit was simply wonderful start to finish. Just because I gave them 4-Stars doesn't mean anything at all bad. I'm just picky. Without a doubt I will be going back! This place is awesome!! You...
Read moreOverall this place is lovely. We went around 5:00 on a Saturday evening and we were the only ones there at first. By 6, more people had joined, especially since Joel Tucker Band was playing around 6:30 (right as we were leaving). The open backyard area has ample seating, is wonderful for families + friends to hang without feeling crowded, it has a sand pit and yard-sized Jenga type blocks, there is an axe-throwing "structure" on site which is unique, a small deck where live music artists play, and the inside is a bit small but I assume that's not their main focus.
I knocked off a star for service. The girl at the front taking our order, although friendly, may have been newish it seemed as she didn't know the answer to some questions, which is no big deal, but they got our order wrong in two ways- they left out the fruit snacks on the kids meal and the coleslaw on my sandwich. Again, not a huge deal, but with not a huge menu I wouldn't think 2 things would be missed. The food was delicious though, even the sides! Between our friends and us, we ordered and tried a few types of things on the menu, even the deserts, and I'd say it all tasted pretty good. I would would recommend the hatch macaroni, green beans, and any of the meats- they were all moist with great flavor. We will definitely be...
Read moreI am shocked at the high reviews on this place. I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and I’ve eaten lots of barbecue and this is the worst I’ve ever had. We ordered a 3 meat plate with moist brisket, ribs & sausage and pinto beans and hatch mac & cheese as our sides. The brisket was the furthest thing from moist. It had the texture of beef jerky and I guess the big chunk of fat on it was supposed to qualify it as moist? Huge missed mark on this. The ribs were decent, nothing special but the most edible thing on the plate. The sausage was horrible. It had zero smokiness and tasted like boiled hot dogs. We wanted creamy corn casserole and sweet garlic green beans. They were out of both. We ended up with the “mac & cheese” which I put in quotes because it was literally dry gummy noodles (pic included). We threw it in the trash. Worst mac and cheese I’ve ever had. The beans weren’t terrible, just pinto beans with some pieces of brisket way too much pepper and no other flavor profile. I think the low point was the bbq sauce. I gagged when I tasted it. Cumin and chili powder does not belong in bbq sauce. That was nauseating. The highlight of this place is the setting. Super cute there and they had a band so atmosphere is 5/5 and food is 0/5. I would give .5 for the pickles because they were the best...
