My family and I had lupper here and it was fantastic! The guacamole alone is worth returning for. It wasn’t just onions and tomatoes with a hint of avocado that most places have seemed to decided is sufficient. Abuela in the back makes homemade corn tortillas that are really something to experience. And I’m pretty sure they make their chips from those homemade tortillas, so also awesome! I had the mole, Friday’s special, that was so yummy! It was rich and flavorful with a hint of spicy, not the sweet chocolatey kind. Their fluffy rice, without some weird mix can of veggies thrown in, is the closest I’ve ever had to my mom’s. Which, sorry, is the best that you’ll never have. My dad had the bistec, which he said was good. I know that’s not a glowing review, but he doesn’t normally order that so I’m not sure what he was thinking. The ladies had the picadillo (ground beef) taco dinner, which they both loved. My wife said it needed a little salt, but she pretty much says that about everything. I figured it’s better than her saying it was too salty. My daughter had the asada (steak) tacos with just cheese. She said they were too spicy, but that usually translates to flavorful and delicious on my end. And she was tired, so you know kids. I didn’t try them because I was too busy stuffing my face with mole, so good. My son had churros, it was lupper so he wasn’t actually hungry, that were delicioso! They were the thinner kind covered in cinnamon sugar, not the huge thick doughy mess kind. Came with a side of perfectly sweet chocolate sauce. The bathrooms were clean, which tells me the kitchen is too. Lovely hand painted murals on the walls and the dishes were the heavy hand painted kind as well. The server, who seemed to be the take out expediter also, was friendly and attentive. We were the only ones in there @3:30, but still the service was great. Not a highly visible location, inside the backwards strip mall on Milwaukee,...
Read moreWe visited for an early lunch. I ordered a horchata, sopes dinner with chorizo and pastor, and a Monarcas taco extra. The horchata was passable, too powdery. The rice and beans were decent. The taco was excellent and I like the combo of meat and seasoning. The tortilla from the taco you could tell was homemade. The sopes were also excellent and held up well. The only other complaint I had for the food was the red and green salsas. They looked great but didn’t have much flavor at all. Someone in our group ordered chips and salsa (not free) and those were also excellent, especially the homemade chips! Our food took a bit longer than expected, but was delicious and freshly made.
The restaurant itself was very clean, as was the restroom. Nice atmosphere and beautiful plates.
The other diners with me ordered tacos, a burrito, and a molcajete fajita dinner that looked AMAZING! He rated it great, overall, but flavor a bit underwhelming.
Overall I’d highly recommend checking it out. I’ll be back to try the posole on...
Read moreIt was our first time trying this place. There are many great Mexican food places around here and the competition is fears. As we entered in to this place it definitely delivered as it had the ambiance of the traditional small little Mexican town. It had nice murals of small Mexican town. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was very welcoming and engaging with customers. The quality of food was great as they make their own in hose salsa’s from mild to spicy. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 star is because they were not able to customize couple of items as we are vegetarian. THERE IS NO COMPLIMENTARY CHIPS AND SALSA HERE!!! The place is bit pricy as well compared to others in the area for similar food and quality. But overall cheese enchiladas and veggie tacos were delicious and I Will definitely visit this place again in the...
