One star was given because the sunny side pizza was pretty tasty. Other than that this was the worst experience of eating out I've ever had. I ordered a bloody Mary my friend ordered an iced tea it took over 20 minutes to receive an ice tea and a bloody Mary. 20 minutes is way too long especially when there were only four full tables in the place. They ran out of coffee. They were out of French toast, they were out of green olives. They brought biscuits to the table that were cold, they did heat them up when I took them back to them. Everyone was brought their food at a different times so two of us were almost done with our pizza before one of our friends had even been brought her eggs. My friend finally received part of her meal and the rest of us were almost done and told at this point that they had run out of fruit. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there wasn't one. Our server moved sooooo slow, and not friendly. After we questioned a bill she asked us if we like to speak with a manager (mind you we were just told there wasn't one there ) she presented us with Michelle. I complained that my friend was being charged for jam and biscuits and they didn't have the jam. We were specifically told they ran out of the seasonal jam and that they were just giving us the fig jam that they use on some pizzas. Instead of rectifying the situation Michelle walked away after informing us that our server was the owners daughter. And one of the chefs told them not to worry about it right in front of the group I was with. This was so unprofessional. I couldn't believe I was experiencing this. I will never be back at this restaurant ever again and I will never...
Read moreAfter having a great experience with Pizzeria Deville a couple weeks ago, it’s unfortunate that I need to leave a bad review, but my group and I had the WORST service we’ve ever experienced in our second visit to the establishment.
Like I mentioned above, our first visit to Pizzeria Deville was 5-star worthy: The service was attentive, the atmosphere was great, and the Focaccia appetizer & Motor City Square pizzas were fantastic.
However, we visited them again on a Sunday night with a group of three people and had the complete opposite experience. After ordering nearly the same food as our first visit, the service was terrible and the food was sub-par: We waited an hour for our food to be brought out, and the Motor City Square pizza was burnt to a crisp (and I don’t mean charred: The crust was so over-cooked that it was difficult to bite). We tried to tell our server about it, but due to the restaurant being extremely understaffed, he didn’t stop by our table for another 40 minutes. In all, we were at the restaurant over TWO hours, a large majority of the time sitting there waiting for something (whether it be the food, drink refills, or the bill), and our server only stopped by our table three times. While our server was friendly, he appeared to be the only waiter in the entire establishment and was clearly overstretched.
If you’re looking for a meal with at least semi-attentive service, I cannot recommend the restaurant, especially at the higher price point.
While I’d love to experience my fist visit to Pizzeria Deville again, my latest experience will...
Read moreFrom the doorway , one can see the wood-fired brick oven, the enormous shelf of split logs and art/decorations all about wood, antique saws, and of course, Pizza! Very attractive menu featuring brewpub-style favorite starters with a pizzeria twist- roasted Brussels sprouts, buffalo chicken meatballs, good looking salads- but the stars of the show are the pizzas! I ordered a classic margherita - puffy, tasty dough with great lightly charred edge & bottom and simple crushed tomato, fresh mozz & chopped basil. My wife ordered the Bianca with prosciutto and arugula- didn’t quite hit the mark. We also brought home a slab of Detroit-style pizza- jaw dropping puffy/chewy dough, cascades of meat & cheese. Service was very good- host was extremely personable, our waiter was quick to make us comfortable and laughing, made some great suggestions, too. Good selection of local/artisan beer in bottles and cans, draft selection modest, but on point, unpretentious cocktails, modest but decent wine options, wild soft drink/NA selections. Beautiful exposed wooden ceiling & quirky wall decor; wide open, but even with two families with kids nearby, never got noisy. Overall, we liked it enough to plan to go back- worth exploring more of the menu before repeating a dish! Enjoy the whole experience, leave room...
