Dec 2022 update: The best items on the AYCE menu are the salmon and eel nigiri, the alaska rolls, and the crab rangoon. The shrimp tempura rolls are also good and have a nice crunch. I noticed on my most recent visit the tuna rolls and tuna nigiri aren't as good as the salmon. The tuna is a bit fibrous and doesnt have the same rich and fresh taste the salmon does. Regardless, the items I mentioned at the beginning of this review are excellent and well worth it! However, I dont think the AYCE will be worth it in the future as I ate too much and hurt my stomach! Maybe next time I'll just order a couple salmon and eel nigiri, a alaska roll and a crab rangoon and that should satisfy my craving! ‐------- I'm glad I got to try the sushi from this restaurant. We were seated almost immediately after arriving in a small private nook area. The waiter gave us waters and menus. We ordered off of the AYCE menu and the waiter took our menus and brought them to the sushi chef. He came back shortly thereafter with the appetizers we ordered. After a moderately long but not too long wait, we got our first plates of sushi. I should note that we were a party of 5 and it looks like there was only 1 sushi chef, so all things considered, the wait was reasonable. Here was my first order: Crab rangoon (the best I've had in years) Seaweed salad (a necessity, pretty standard) 1 tuna sushi (decent) 2 salmon sushi (good) 1 ylwtail sushi (ok) 1 eel sushi (good) 1 alaska roll (good) 1 sky beauty roll (ok) 1 fashion roll (ok) I'll start out by saying I liked everything I ordered the first go round, but there were some things I liked more than others. The things I noted above that were good I ordered a 2nd time, I'd get a piece of tuna nigiri again, and I'm glad I tried the things I noted above that were ok, but I wouldn't get them again. If I were to come back I'd just want to get (multiples of) the things I listed as good above. All in all a good AYCE sushi experience.

It may be just because it’s Christmas but I was highly disappointed with my experience, especially after reading all of the other reviews that made me excited to try this place. The people who were working in the restaurant tonight did not understand English. My husband and I were very patient, even after asking for soy sauce 5 separate times. It was just frustrating not having the sauce we needed to eat our food while it was warm. We did the all you could eat menu for $28.99 but no one ever came back to pick up my second set of selections. It was a horrible experience and not even the fault of the servers (they tried their best to understand what we were asking for). I walked straight to the counter to pay after waiting a good 15min for someone to pick up my order. For the restaurant and food in general…. The entire time children’s music was playing (Row row row your boat, wheels on the bus, etc.) which did not seem appropriate and made the experience a lot less enjoyable. The sushi roll I had fell apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. I don’t know if it’s typical for this place but I wasn’t provided soy sauce or a little dish for sauce. The wasabi and ginger was pretty good. I really liked the fried shrimp, gyoza and crab Rangoon. I will not be coming back. I do not feel I got my moneys worth and it was not an enjoyable experience.

FINALLY open.. today we had lunch with Sonny the head Sushi Chef and his apprentice with Lyda running the front of house and keeping things organized, our table staff was Kaya. Let's wrap this up quick, VERY DELICIOUS.. The "all you can eat" threw me off, but it's not a "buffet" it is a great little 6 stool Sushi bar and probably 20 tables and one wall with bench style upholstered seating. You can pay 1 price and enjoy too much sushi or order from a well thought out menu. Everything is new. Been open about 3 weeks and we locals were ready. Sonny suggested the Wisconsin Roll, think a Spider Roll with extras. Fantastic.. Also from Sonny's suggestion was a Caterpillar Roll also delicious. We also had Spicy Tuna Roll, Rainbow Roll on the table. We also had Edamame and a serving of Tempura Veg. Really great.. I didn't get a picture, but the Tea was served in a nice ceramic cup. Nice touch and delicious, fresh tea. The place is immaculate. You will not be disappointed and in fact, probably become a regular. I hope they have a frequent sushi card. The family owns other restaurants with similar cuisine in the area. This was great for lunch during work - just up the street. We will be back.. often.. for lunch and dinner with out-of-towners.

Overpriced, disgusting food. I can make it at home for less than $5, and it would even taste so much better. Same song played for the whole 2 hours I was there, and everything is dirty. Servers and chefs were all stuck up and rude, and didn't bother giving customers their "precious" time. Waste of money, highly don't recommend.

EDIT: Wow, I am certainly baffled by the response. Not only did you say that my experience couldn't have been possible and that I was lying "The chefs and waiters are simple and unpretentious. They serve every guest with heart..We have no conditions or qualifications to be rude or arrogant to customers because our industry does not allow it," but you also said I was the reason for my bad experience. "Of course, sometimes we will encounter difficulties from customers." Never once, did I talk back to the servers here. I treated them with the utmost respect, and was returned with the same arrogance. One thing to bring to notice- all three times I was here, not once was it busy, and each time my experience here was surprisingly worse than the next. Clearly, not only is the customer service in person inadequate, but also online! You say customer feedback promotes your growth, but evidently not- unless you actually take feedback into consideration and actually work towards making customer experience better, instead of calling them liars and blaming them for the reason of their negative experience. Never once will I come back here again, because I may be surprised, like you said. Maybe instead of stale, inedible food, I'll find mold! And I won't even be surprised. To make sure you clearly understand once again:

Some things to note about their service: Waited over 30 minutes, not even in rush hour, for a glass of water and 2 plates. They needed 5 reminders until it finally came. They treat you and look down on you as if they don't care about the care they are providing you with at all. They either never take your dirty dishes, or they take the food that you haven't even started on without asking, and they walk away so fast you can't even stop them. Their attitude is absolutely ridiculous. Not only do they act like they're above you, they also act as if they want to leave-- which I completely understand, but they don't even put in an ounce of effort to please customers.

Second, their food is never consistent. Their food is either: Overly salty Uncooked Flavorless Sour Not fresh

Lastly, their ambience isn't the greatest either. To list some specifics: Dirty tables Dirty Dishes Crumbs, dust, food, and hair on the floors Same music played for 3 hours Entire place was dark, but not the elegant dark. More like trying to hide the gunk in the restaurant dark.

Overall, my experiences here were all horrible. Not only was their food, service, AND ambience awful, but their food was also extremely overpriced for less than average edible food.

As a critic, I try not to compare restaurants to other restaurants, but this one was probably one of the worst restaurants in Lake County, Illinois. This occurrence has already been updated on my social medias as well as website, and again; I highly advise against coming here for dinner, and with this response, even recommend the reevaluation of...

I think this deserves better than a four, perhaps a 4.4. Were it out of ten, I would give it a 7.5. It is not high end and you're not getting uni or ootoro anytime soon. Also, your GPS will try to put you into a dentist's parking lot. So: it is on the main drag but in a strip mall with some other food joints and you can park in the back. Also, the front door needs to be man-handled in the worst kind of way to open it.

The staff are suitably friendly without being intrusive. If you are there for the lunch all-you-can-eat, use the green ordering slips. IYKYK We ordered way, way too much (we were there for a Navy graduation and our sailor's eyes were bigger than his stomach) and there is a $1 PER PIECE charge for leftovers. That isn't as much as you might think, considering (at least in our area) sushi rolls average $6-8 per roll. The mackerel was a standout for me. If you don't like strong tasting fish you may not like it. Also, the mountain roll was phenomenal. I am allergic to avocado so they were kind enough to have me write that down on my slip and to make a couple things for me without, because about half that menu has avocado in it. (Welcome to Midwest sushi, which is full of avocado and cream cheese for whatever reason.)

The price is reasonable, the food is on par with that you pay, but I think it matches the price point perfectly. It is exactly what it is and honestly- for sushi in a strip mall in a small, Midwestern town, it is better...
