Let me start by saying I've heard great things about this place, so I was super excited. HORRIBLE customer service and just plain rude.
We got there at exactly 8:55 they close at 9:30. We had 45 mins to order and get outta there. We understood that so we were going to hurry up and make a decision within 5 mins. Also, it's Pho, doesn't take very long to make.
When we entered with a red haired lady stomping towards us while looking at her watch. Looks up at us without a hello, just grabs the menu and says 3? We nodded.
She throws the menus down and leaves the table.
We sit down looking at each other asking ourselves should we leave? We we're super uncomfortable and felt very unwelcomed. 30... minuets...till close....
The waitress comes by, doesn't say hello my name is, nothing at all. Just asks with a pissed off face "are you ready?" I chuckle cause it's very clear that they don't want customers 30 minutes before close.
We said "no(obviously)"
She leaves and I start looking for other places to go.
The waitress comes back within maybe 30 seconds and asks "are you ready yet?" We say "no it's CLEAR you guys don't want us here. Thanks for the hospitality."
They don't even say anything. They just grab our menus and leave as we leave.
I've never experienced that at a restaurant. Even if you didn't want us there because they close in 30 minutes all you had to say was something like "maybe if you could order quick cause we're close." ANYTHING except what we...
Read moreUnfortunately, I had a really bad experience here on 4/13/25. I ordered a pork banh mi, the meat was totally undercooked, basically raw as shown in the image below (which gave me food poisoning later that night). The meat and vegetables were served at room temperature--not hot, not cold, just... off. It made me question how long the food had been sitting out before it got to me.
Within hours, I was extremely sick--nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, fatigue, extreme dehydration and I ended up having to leave work early on Monday. Food safety is not something to take lightly, especially when it comes to pork.
If you decide to eat here, PLEASE be careful and check your food before digging in. I truly hope they address this issue before someone else gets sick.
Price: $6-7 for 1 banh mi, $6 for an order of crab rangoon Taste: Flavor of everything in it was bland. The bread tasted old as it was very very dry. Every place I've ever gotten banh mi from, the bread was always fresh or made day of. The filling inside the crab rangoon was very very sweet--not my preference since the sauce they gave me was also sweet. Service: 1/5. The lady who took my order wasn't that friendly or welcoming. She was on her phone the whole time and acted like she didn't want...
Read moreI never thought I would see the day that a pho place would open up in lily white northern Lake County. The pho here is actually pretty good. It is better than the Hoffman Estates place but not as good as some of the places on Argyle. I would say that the Des Plaines pho place is slightly better, though. Des Plaines only serves pho and some other Vietnamese noodles and dishes. No bahnmi sandwiches or anything. This new place has actually has Vietnamese food and an entire Chinese food menu with chop suey and mapo tofu and such. I guess that is the only way they can survive in this area. They also serve bahnmi sandwiches which made me happy. They are just okay. You can only go to the city to get bahnmi, so they pretty much have a suburban monopoly. Disappointingly, they do not have pate sandwiches, which is definitely a Vietnamese staple.
Bottom line: I hate to say it but the high reviews this place is getting is pretty much the result of not having any competition in the area. Fortunately, the pho is still...
