Las Margaritas — Restaurant in Lincoln

Whenever I've visited a friend in Lincoln, we've gone to Las Margaritas for dinner. The service is usually fine (servers not commonly that personable but ...) and the food I'd say is probably a 3 1/2 to 4 out of 5. It never really makes it beyond that but it holds the 3 & 1/2 mark rather well. Last evening we stopped here and I asked if they had fish tacos, to which the server guided me to on the menu and I said "that'll do". Now, I'll take partial blame here for not looking closer, but I thought the item came with black beans and rice, which was listed as sides at the top of this very portion of the menu. When I received the very large oval plate, it was three tacos (not bad, not great, but the place is consistent at least) and literally half the plate was their rice (never been very impressed by their rice, not much in spices or flavor for what gives the impression as a truer Mexican place). There was literally a mile of rice! Needless to say I barely touched the rice. When I got the bill this "dinner" was $28!!! Three average-sized, if not small, fish tacos (again, nothing special with seasonings etc) and a pound of rice! I was amazed! This is NOT a $28 type of establishment, I'm sorry! I could have gotten 3 fish tacos ala carte just as good if not better at similar restaurants for HALF this and it would have been better than any of that rice. I’m not one who usually writes reviews, but the service my family and I received today was not ideal. We were excited because it was our first time here, but our server was pretty rude to us. He only checked in on us once and when we asked questions about a menu item he would look at us for a few seconds like we were slow and then respond in a way that made it seem like he was dumbing it down for us. and I have worked in customer service and I understand that this is a demanding job, however we went around 2:30 and there was only one other family besides us and we were being kind and patient, also my dad is a very friendly individual and he was trying to make conversation with our server and our server made it seem like we were a burden to be there. the manager of the store was very very nice though and the place is pretty inside and the food is okay! I just don’t know if I would want to come back based on...

The food is pretty good, there are a lot of different chicken and steak dishes that are popular with my friends and family. I'm more of a taco meat / ground beef guy, and candidly, Las Margaritas' idea of ground beef - as with all of Morales's places - is a travesty. It's ground super fine and funny, very bland and I'm pretty sure there's soy protein in there too. That said, their Deluxe Manadero Burrito kind of offsets some of the blandness by combining other flavors and textures in there, and the thing is HUGE. Plus, they serve Pepsi products, which is a big plus in my book.

The service this time was extremely attentive without being overbearing; the server struck that perfect balance.

All in all, this isn't usually the first place I'd choose for Mexican food, but I'm always happy to go when my people choose it, and I'm never really disappointed...
