This review is for Runza restaurants in general, as I have been to all of them in Lincoln. I would recommend Runza to anyone visiting Lincoln. Runza started in Lincoln and is a unique sandwich few have had outside of Nebraska. Service is usually pretty good. I'm guessing they pay their employees a bit more than average because they seem to be at a higher level of competence than most fast food places. i.e, McDonald's, KFC. They have good burgers and good Runzas, although I have had homemade Runza facsimiles that were better. When cooked long enough(to where they are slightly crispy and a golden brown color), their fries are the best in town. Unfortunately, this is seldom the case as they usually serve them a golden or even golden-white color. If you ask for well done fries, you typically get already cooked fries that are dropped back in and cooked a second time which makes them really greasy. Hello, Runza! Wake up and smell the coffee...cook your fries an extra 30 seconds and they'll be so much better!
I see some people are mistakenly touting the 56th and Holdrege location as the original location. Check out the Runza website and you will see the first Runza was down around what used to be 3rd and Van Dorn. That little building was torn down about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family moved here from the West Coast last winter, and we've heard so much about this midwestern delicacy. I actually found recipes for them and have made them several times at home, and we like them. With all the restaurants to try, we did not find a chance to go to a Runza until last night. The first thing we noticed was the amount of grease; it was enough that it leaked through the paper wrapping. The taste was okay; we definitely preferred the ones I had made at home. After eating we ran some errands, and by the time we got to the first stop both of us were feeling unwell. We will stick with homemade bierocks.
The restaurant itself: the dining area was clean, and the trash cans not overflowing. The counter staff were polite, but very young and could use some lessons in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friend and I went through the drive thru for some food. It was about 3 or 4pm so it's wasn't supe busy but there were a couple cars in line. I got the "Order when you're ready" said okay one sec, and about 15 seconds later said my order. No response. We wait a couple minutes while saying hello? hellloooo? is anyone there? There was someone behind me, so I guess I hoped the employee's mic was turned off or something but she got my order. But no.. we pull up to the window and the girl didn't know what order I was talking about. I explained that I waited for a response but got none. I tried not to sound mad. She took my order there and it was a short time til I got my food. The girl at the window seemed scared and I don't know why. I'm not intimidating, lol.
Anyways, my meal was...
