I'll begin by sharing my standing bias. I have tasted the best hamburger in the world (in my opinion), many times actually, and that was at Mike's Grill in Blacksburg, VA. Mike's Grill has long since been closed. Since then my best evaluation of a hamburger has been that, "It is good but not as good as Mike's." To be fair, I will rate Mike's hamburger as a 6, leaving the maximum five stars available for HF Crave.
My wife and I had dinner at HF Crave last evening. My visit was all about the hamburger. My wife ordered the Philly Cheese sandwich. I ordered the Plain Jane burger without cheese, onion, or pickle. So I had a burger with lettuce, tomato and mayo. After all, the burger patty should be the star of a hamburger.
The meat was high quality, well-ground and had a great flavor. There likely was seasoning added but that did not overwhelm the natural flavor of the beef. So the foundation is there for a truly good hamburger.
There was a slight disappointment. I ordered a medium-well burger but it was well-done, yet it was not dry and was really very good. I know that it is nearly impossible to stop a burger at the medium-well stage.
My wife enjoyed her sandwich, her sweet potato fries were quite good and my onion rings were delicious. We ended the meal by sharing a wonderful grilled cookie with ice cream.
The servers were quite friendly, we were seated quickly and our orders were taken without much wait.
The location of HF Crave is not so great. It is on the corner of Holdredge and N. 48th Street, a very busy intersection, and is on the ground floor of a large apartment building. The front area is a quite large concrete parking lot without grass, flowers, or plants. The ambiance inside the restaurant is quite good, suitable for a sandwich shop, but it was chilly inside so we chose the outside tables looking at the parking lot and street.
I'll conclude with a confession about Mike's Grill. I've heard it said that "Things aren't as great was they were back in the good old days, and they never were." I suspect that if, by some miracle, I was given a hamburger from Mike's Grill, but without knowledge of the source, I would rate is as good but not as...

Read moreSaturday night I came in with a group of friends and to say the least, it was an awful experience. Half of our orders had some issue with them. Got the wrong dips, burgers werent cooked fully, took a while to get our food even though there werent very many people there. The staff was having a good ol time watching the Huskers play. My friends burger was raw in the middle and her bun had blood on it so she asked if it could be cooked a little more. The waitress was very rude about it and talked down to my friend telling her that "the menu states that we cook all burgers medium well unless you say otherwise" so my friend just told them nevermind, she will just eat the fries. Then the manager came over and said "I'm not comping your burger because you didnt give us the chance to fix it." Well, I wouldn't want to eat anything they brought out after the level of rudeness we experienced either. Then when the waitress asked how to split the checks she messed up multiple of them. My friend said she has no problem paying for her meal, even though she sent the burger back, but was going to leave a review. The manager said she wasnt going to comp anything to stop us from leaving a bad review, which wasnt the point. If you mess up someone's food, then speak to them with a demeaning tone, and then have a manager who comes over with an even more rude tone, that is just bad business. In the end she comped the meals but it was a super awkward and unpleasant experience. I will not...
