EDIT: We decided to try AXO again since the food was so good when we ordered pick up, even though that was a nightmare on a busy holiday. We were blown away. The food was amazing and fresh. Our server was attentive and sweet. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and it was out of this world with flavor and texture. We both ordered the beef birria tacos and they were incredible, the flavors are unmatched and we even drank the remainer of the consume when we were finished with the tacos! I got the pineapple agua fresca and I can’t recommend that more. So happy we decided to try AXO again, they did not disappoint and we’ll be back!
ORIGINAL: Food was really great but unfortunately service was down right terrible. I pre ordered one of the Valentine’s Day specials on their website at 1:00pm yesterday afternoon, I was told over the phone and my emailed receipt showed that our food would be ready for pick up at 6:15pm tonight. My husband went right from work to pick up and food wasn’t in his hands until a whole hour later!! He watched people sit down to eat and get their food before the food I preordered yesterday was even prepared and he was one of the last customers to get their food. Even the guy behind him told the hostess that my husband was waiting forever. I know it was probably a super busy night for them but they at least could have told him it was going to be an hour or longer so we could’ve went back later to pick up, not continue to say “sorry it’ll be out shortly” to him. I honestly don’t know if we’ll be going...
Read moreStarting with the service, it was very mediocre. Our table didn't have napkins, silverware, or small plates for sharing. I had to ask for those even after our shared appetizer came. Same with napkins. Food came out at a decent speed though, and the server was friendly.
Atmosphere is just okay. They're going to have to move to a bigger place, it's constantly a 30+ minute wait time, even at 7:20pm on a Tuesday.
Food was pretty good. The birria egg rolls were great, the street fries were good to great. The ramen appears to use really cheap packaged ramen dry noodles. Definitely not fresh. The birria broth was super super salty, even if delicious. I love ramen, but this was way saltier. It really just tasted similar to the birria dip with some noodles and meat in it. No other crossover of what makes ramen though. A Mexican inspired marinated egg or something would have been cool. It is not something I would get again.
I tried a bite or two of the birria tacos and they were decent, but I didn't find them to be excellent.
Overall experience was cool to try once, but with the wait times I wouldn't be back anytime soon.
Edit: Came back recently and tried the birria cheesesteak, which was insanely good. The chicken birria fries were great also. We had excellent service and felt the price was extremely fair for the amount and quality of food. I just can't recommend the ramen, the cheesesteak, though,...
Read moreThis place has been on my todo list for a while. I knew it was always busy, that’s a great problem to have. Upon arrival there wasn’t a greeter or host so it was a little chaotic. They took our info and we went back to the car for about ten minutes and then they were ready for us.
Once seated the service was fantastic. Wish I could remember our servers name, he was so personable. He’s from Puebla I remember that ;)
We started with the Esquites appetizer and my wife ordered the Axo Tacos and I ordered the Birria Ramen.
The server promptly came out with a small plate of chips covered with beans and queso fresco, exactly as it was done while we were in Mexico! First time in I dunno how many Mex restaurants here in the US that we got that without asking/paying… lit my wife’s face right up (she’s from Mexico/Torreon).
Then she reached for the table side saldas. Icing on the salsa cake, the authentic Macha salsa, compliments, maybe only the second time we’ve run into that. The green and red salsas were also super tasty!
Esquites came and were spot on.
Lunch came and did not disappoint.
We will be...
