A hidden gem! TRES AMIGOS is located in a small strip mall on Cantrell, across from McDonalds, just west of Mississippi. Their strip center partners include Shipley's Doughnuts and Legends Hair Salon.
Now, it might seem strange to start off a 4 star review with a detailed description of the location, but TRES AMIGOS occupies a site that has seen many restaurants come and go over the years. TRES AMIGOS deserves to come and stay!
The frequent turnover of restaurants in that location has definitely been affected by the cramped parking lot (especially when Shipley's is open) and some occasional difficulties negotiating left turns into or out of their parking lot. With all that out of the way, I'll begin my review.
The restaurant was nearly empty about 3 PM on a Sunday afternoon. There was one other table and several to-go orders while we were there, but considering the time and day that didn't bother me at all.
The outside and interior reminded me a lot of the many similar restaurants - sparse decor, nothing to look at.Who cares if the food and service is good? We ordered margaritas and the owner (?) brought them from the kitchen with an expression of his great joy in having prepared and presented them. The food was marvelous, nicely spiced. Of course the service was attentive with so few customers but it was also genuine and kind.
A second visit brought the only two disappointments. The spicy wings were not the least bit spicy and the queso was dangerously close to melted Velveeta. But I'm sticking with a 4 star review for the great food, margaritas and friendly staff. I'm anxious to see if TRES AMIGOS goes "tres por tres" in...
Read moreWe found this gem, and I'm in love. Small place, and there was a bit of a wait for our food. It was worth it, though. I don't mind waiting for something delicious. The margaritas were on point! It's very important that the margaritas are good, lol. The fresh chips, salsa, and cheese dip were so good. That Chipotle salsa was the best I've ever had. We ordered the hot wings, Mexican pizza, and chicken tacos. They were all good. That salsa that comes with the chicken taco was so good. Being Native American, I just love Mexican food and the culture. That mexican pizza was so crispy, and the chicken was so flavorful. I'm ready for more. Nice bar, too. Y'all should order so.e Malibu Black. Our waitress Alicia was so kind and friendly. Our only complaint was the air conditioning. My husband was hot and uncomfortable. I was ok with it, but he needs to be cool. He was sweating, and if it wasn't for me, he would have left. We will be back soon because of me, but we hope it's a little cooler in there. The parking lot is small, so keep...
Read moreI hate to do this as I love Mexican food, but I gotta say this. We had the Chorizo burrito, diablo wings, ultimate nachos, and a chicken fajita style quesadillas with habanero salsa. To start off most of the food we had was bland. Only thing not bland was the diablo wings. The chorizo burrito, although was big, had little meat. The diablo wings were spicy to my liking, but wow are they tiny. More bone then meat honestly. The ultimate nachos I'm sure would've been nice but it needs more seasoning. The queso that came with it was good af though. Now on to the chicken fajita style quesadilla + habanero salsa. It says that the quesadilla comes with grilled peppers and onions but we got none of that. Was just bland chicken and cheese. Also for the price, the quesadilla was small af. Was hoping the salsa would at least save it but while it is a bit spicy, I honestly thought they pulled a fast one and just blended habanero and water. Just taste like nothing. 8 bucks for a small...
