Meat, meat, and more meat! (And Waffle Crisp!)
Edwards is THE place to go for purchasing fresh meats! The prices are great, and the meats are the best in town. A huge selection of homemade sausages (including chorizo!) Their cuts of steak and porkchops are the thickest around. And you can never go wrong with the stuffed peppers! They also have a great selection of fresh seafood. The butchers are very friendly and helpful.
The rest of the grocery store has all of the expected items. However, the thing that is really nice about the grocery section is the unexpected items. For instance, on a recent trip, I bought some local(ish) habanero jam. There are just lots of products and brands that you don't see at Kroger or Walmart. The prices for some grocery items are, expectedly, sometimes a bit higher than, say, Walmart (but still far lower than the cheapest items at Whole Foods!)
Finally, they sell the cereal Waffle Crisp. I have been searching for this for years, and I thought it was discontinued! It appears to be available at no other store but Edwards!
Overall, my favorite (non-specialty) grocery store in Little Rock! And I cannot emphasize enough--the meats are phenomenal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI started coming across town because the 2 stores in SW are ridiculous. But this morning I came in and the ignoring of customers in the deli when you had at least 7 employees is ridiculous! It took 15 minutes at least to cut a lb of meat and half a lb of cheese. But it gets worse. One of the lady's ear had to be itching because she scratched it then spat in the garbage can in plain view of customers! She then went back to finishing work at the fryer or oven. Whichever was to the right in the back. The guy that was doing the turkey legs was eating meat I assumed fell off the bone. The customer asked the other gentleman that was working with the one cutting my meat if he could get some type of meat after he had been ignored and the worker acted like he didn't really want to help him. This is after he just told another customer she couldn't get any chicken strips till they started serving it at 10! But you have it on display with the breakfast food. I'm sorry for complaining but that is the worse crew I've seen working in a deli. They were more interested in talking to each other than helping the 4 customers that came up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really like Edwards Food Giant. It's an Arkansas-based chain, and its store on Cantrell in Little Rock is sparklingly clean and well-organized, has helpful and courteous staff, and stocks local items that are hard to find in other local stores -- Arkansas-made Petit Jean ham and bacon, for instance; cheese straws by Janis and Melanie; Texas-made Mrs. Renfro's chow-chow; Louisiana products like Camellia beans and Zatarain's items.
As we wandered today looking for things, one of the cashiers who had no one waiting at her till spotted us and took her time to come up to us and ask if we were looking for something. We told her we were, indeed, and she took the time to look up the location of the item and then walk us to the section of the store where we could find it. We really appreciated that good service and friendliness -- which you'd be hard-pressed to find in some other local...
