Having moved 38 times in 40 years, I literally don’t know the feeling of ā€œhomeā€ but between Ms. Joyce’s inspirational faith and all the ladies’ great service, camaraderie, and folding you as a newcomer here like you’ve been sipping coffee there forever, I imagine that’s what home would feel like especially when you add in the food or deserts; homestyle at its finest! (Again, imagining.) I’m not a cake or pie person but I want to eat my way week to week thru the sweets case alone. I keep buying two and give one away but so far I’ve had the berry pies, peach pie, gooey bars, cinnamon roll and gave away some coconut chess pie. I’ve also sat in for lunch (they have a good mix of breakfast and lunch on the menu and even have daily specials, which I ordered), and I thought chicken and dumplings would be the star of my plate. While my entree was good, the green beans, whaaaaat?! And the candies yams, sooo glad they’re not bombarded in marshmallow by whatever it is -maybe clove and honey?- is soooo good; I can see why it’s been on KENS5 Neighborhood Eats, and maybe even Diners Drive In & Dives? If I’m mistaken about that latter, someone call Guy and tell him to come on down. If WHEN you go here you get to, talk with Joyce even if just to thank her but likely you’ll be inspired; she’s quite a lady! Also up for grabs here, Ć” show of support for local artisans from wall art to headbands to community gathering, I think it’s comedy this Friday? Come, check them out. I don’t know why I thought Jim’s was my favorite local diner but especially since they’re slipping and now sliding downhill at my two local locations, I’m soooo glad I found this place! šŸ™šŸ½šŸ’–

A true gem in the San Antonio area. My wife and I decided to stop by today because I saw their extensive dessert menu and wanted to give it a try. Be warned, desserts are on a rotational basis, so if looking for a particular item, so it's either best to call ahead, be slightly disappointed as I was that there was no banana pudding, or give another option a try. (Which I did). With that disclaimer out of the way, let's talk about the meal itself. Hands down, it was one of the best home cooked style meals that I didn't have at home. They served breakfast all day, so that was the option that my wife took. It was excellent. I opted for the daily special, again slightly disappointed in the size of my chicken pieces, but the flavor of all my items more than made up for it and the owner stopped by and offered an explanation which was more than understandable. That, too, is what truly made this visit a worthwhile experience as all the member of the staff today was top notch and truly gave each of the diners there today an at home vibe like you were speaking with family. Dessert for me was a slice of pie, which was pretty tasty and will offer that my wife thoroughly enjoyed her dessert as well, so that was a treat. Top notch spot if in the area, but where was the pudding? šŸ˜€ only thing keeping it from my coveted "Certified Mad Good" rating, but trust me; dont let my pudding needs stop you from visiting this wonderful establishment. It will be well worth the trip!

The customer service and welcoming when you enter this restaurant/bakery is what you wish every restaurant offered its patrons. When you first walk in you’re greeted with a warm welcome as if you’re meeting family you haven’t seen I. A long time. The decor makes the restaurant feel more like a home type of vibe/ambiance. Makes you feel really relaxed and comfortable. After I placed my order, the food was brought out pretty quickly and was prepared perfectly. I had the breakfast special and let me tell you this is the only restaurant I’ve been to for breakfast in the city that makes breakfast how it’s suppose to. The bacon had a perfect not to hard not to soft crisp. I asked to have my eggs over medium and they did just that to perfection. For some reason many other restaurants get that wrong, but not this place. There grits remind me of my mom making me grits when I was a kid and they were delicious too. I had their Texas Pecan coffee and it had a real good robust flavor profile. After I was done I was tempted to try one of their freshly prepared desserts but I had to behave myself. So many pies, cakes, buns & sweets to choose from. I wish I had taken a picture of my breakfast but the aroma of the meal made me forget. By the time I thought about it, well it was all gone. Lol. Definitely check them out, I know I will be back here for sure.
