Had lunch here today. I ordered the (Mission style) regular burrito (shredded chicken and refried beans, asked for no rice too/$11.99) and a can of Coke-Zero/$2.25. Order came up quickly, cashier/lady brought it over to my table within 5-10 minutes of my ordering it. Got here early/1040am, because I know a line forms early here. Salsa bar had a few red/green salsas (all were very good), radishes, limes and a jalapeno/carrot escabeshe with small plastic cup containers for same.
The flour tortilla was freshly cooked on the grill, so it had a nice finished taste to it with some toasted spots. Chicken was fresh and tasty as well. Refried beans were also tasty. I have to admit, when I normally order no rice & add refried beans, many places will put mostly refried beans and a lot less chicken in the burrito. This place was 70/30 protein to bean ratio (which is primarily why I gave them 5-stars). The burrito was excellent. They constructed the burrito where the refried beans and chicken were equally divided within the burrito, so I could taste both evenly. In lots of places, their burritos are front/back loaded, so you get the protein on top of the beans (or visa versa). This was done evenly.
Service was good too. I did see where the self-service soft drinks had limited choices (and no iced tea - machine was inop). Which is why I ordered a can of soda. I would return to this place in a heartbeat. It...
Read moreI used to love this place! It was local prices were a bit high, but the food was great. I went there last night and a burrito was $11. They've upped the prices yet again, and I'm not willing to pay $11 for an okay burrito that isn't that large. Really disappointing.
EDIT: Very interesting! My original review was posted months ago. At the time, the owner posted a response basically telling me off, saying "they price their food competitively". Sure, as if an $11 burrito makes sense anywhere! Therefore, I started going to the Mexican restaurant down the street on Vasco on the other side of the freeway. I really enjoyed their $8 burritos! The owner has since edited their response with a much more welcome tone, which I'm happy to hear. Maybe they got a new owner or a smarter PR guy? I'll swing by again sometime to see if they've actually lowered their prices. The food is good, but prices need to be reasonable too. I always say, "vote with...
Read moreMan was I stressed about where I was going to get my tacos when I moved to Livermore. I wasn't going to drive all the way to Dublin to go to my old spot, your local taco shop has to be... well... local! So I slowly started going to pretty much everywhere around here and lo and behold, the closest taco shop was the best. Phew! What a relief.
Tequilas does this thing called Pollo al pastor. Good god, just make up a huge batch so I can take a bath in it. It's sooooooooooooo good! See al pastor isn't a pork product, it's a method of marinating and then grilling meat. Everyone just assumes that al pastor means mexican barbequed pork. It's not so!!! So Tequilas makes chicken in this marinating and grilling way, ooooooooooh man, and it's to die for. Pollo al pastor, go yell at your local taco shop to get off their rear end and make this marvel known to the rest...
