The place looks nice. Clean restrooms. The location is easy to find. A wide variety of pastries and desserts. The club sandwich was above average. Now on to the criticism. The iced tea tasted like strong heavily flavored coffee. From the staff response, I assume that it isn’t supposed to have a coffee flavor. Which leads me to believe that 1 the dispenser wasn’t washed and 2 they haven’t realized that coffee dispensers shouldn’t be used for any other beverage. I don’t think anyone fixed the issue, at least not while I was there. We were given bottled tea instead. I wanted a coke but the only thing available was glass bottles which are usually too expensive for me. My father and I both ordered sandwiches, neither one came with chips even though the menu specifically states that they are supposed to. The tomato basil soup tastes like pasta sauce out of the jar. It came with two cheese breads. Reminds me of a deconstructed pizza. My biggest complaint is with the staff. Every one seemed either frazzled or clueless. The restaurant was about 1/3 full. When I came in I asked the person at the counter how ordering worked as it was my first time. They seemed truly stunned by my question and I never received a complete response. The menu boards are split at a 90 degree angle so you can’t look at both simultaneously. The entire experience was confusing and frustrating.
I would like to add an update. I didn’t make fun of anyone in that restaurant. At no point did I tell anyone to do anything with their head or any other part of their anatomy. I said that we did not receive chips with our sandwich order. And that perhaps the staff needs to "tighten the screws." Since you guys don’t seem to understand nuance or turns of phrase, let me explain. The staff would benefit from working on consistency, basic knowledge of how the front of the restaurant operates and making sure an order is correct before sending it out. I never said that the staff was rude or dismissive. I did say that they seemed frazzled and unable to answer what I thought were simple questions. Being nice to customers doesn’t mean you are doing your job well, it just means that you are pleasant to be around. The employee I spoke to about the chips replied that she would let someone know and I left it at that. I didn’t make a scene. I didn’t demand the chips, I just left. What I said and how she interpreted what I said are two different things and I can’t help that. Some people don’t like flavored tea. If you make iced tea that tastes like coffee then tell people. When someone asks how ordering/paying/getting drinks/receiving food is done at this particular establishment, tell them. If the menu says the sandwich comes with chips give customers the chips. Again, feel free to interpret my body language and hand gestures as you will. I am just one confused and frustrated customer defending myself against a gaggle of employees that obviously didn’t have it together and apparently customers as well. I would also like to continue my review by saying that the breads that our sandwiches came on were top notch. As were the lemon meringue tart and little Opera cake. I think it’s cool that toasted cheese bread is served with the soup because it’s fun to dunk. I didn’t particularly care for the praline flavored baked good we took home but my dad liked it. So as with the soup, it’s just a matter of interpretation. I would also like to apologize to the employee who believed me to be making fun of her. That was not my intention. And even if I didn’t mean it that way, it hurt her, and I am sorry for that. Obviously, after all this, we will not be back. Which is probably best for...
Read moreThis is a very traditional French bakery (boulangerie) and Pastry (pâtisserie) shop. It's a diamond in the rough. Who expected to see a gourmet level shop in a remote crossroads small town in Texas!
The food looks and tastes very good. French bakeries are best known for displaying mouthwatering delectables that bring patrons in for a quick bite and respite from humidity.
The menu lacks the traditional crêpes used for sweet or savory wraps which is a large portion of their draw especially in Paris and throughout France. Also missing is my favorite pastry flavor, lemon. There aren't any drinks without caffeine except bottled water or a few gourmet bottled sodas that parents don't necessarily want for their kids. The traditional syrup drinks like sirop de menthe or sirop de grenadine aren't on the menu that French teenagers love in droves (often daily after school). These are the reasons for the 4-star*. Hope that more non-caff drinks like sirops are considered and added especially for the adjacent high schoolers and kids to enjoy.
Stella's does a great job providing a cultural experience where cowboy boots and baseball hats are common (and that's the women). You can tell the men 'cause they have jeans tucked in their boots.😉
*Reviews need to be measured against the best of the best so when McDonald's calls itself a restaurant it really can't rate above 2-stars. That's what makes reviews honest and real. People who only rate establishments 5-star on all their reviews are not necessarily reliable or honest, often just advertising for their friends and often epitomized by giving a 1-star to other establishments to complain.
