I'M ADDING THIS PART WEEKS LATER: Oh my goodness, I am SO disappointed! I ordered a large take out of their broasted chicken to serve my visitors. I hate to say this, but it was not good... The chicken was dry, overcooked, had very little flavor, and was very greasy.
ORIGINAL: So, this is an odd way to start a positive review. I wasn't allowed to enter Richmaid on my last visit. Why? Because I'd arrived TOO D**M LATE!
I start with that story because of how I was turned away. It was done with such personal consideration. The pleasant young woman who was tasked with having to turn me away did so with so much empathy and concern.
It was as if she knew that I'd been driving for the past four hours. As if she knew that I had driven past a hundred other places, but was only focused on finally collapsing into a comfortable booth at Richmaid after a long, hard drive. Finally able to order my favorite comfort food and restoring my energy and spirit.
I almost wanted to tell her, "No, no. Don’t you worry – I'm going to be OK."
Of course, the truth is that I spent the afternoon watching stupid YouTube videos and not the clock, AND while at my residence less than two miles away! I ALWAYS arrive late, no matter where I'm going, no matter who I'm picking up.
The point is that the lovely people who make Richmaid Restaurant tick REALLY care about you, and they care about your needs. Even when the place was already closed – you know, when you’re not really a customer. Their food is traffic, by the way -- I suppose I should mention that. I must also say that this young woman didn't have a clue about who I was -- I was just some random guy.
In my opinion, Richmaid is one of the best places I've ever enjoyed a meal, other than at my mother’s table. I was born in the ‘50s. Much of what they serve is what some might call “Good ol’ American Food”. At least, that’s where they start – and then they do their razzle-dazzle with those traditional meals.
We didn’t use to eat French fried sweet potatoes in the 50s, or Waldorf Salads, or, good lord, WAFFLES AND CHICKEN! (At least not in California.) But, we do now. Richmaid makes all that, and much more. Their meals are ALWAYS done to perfection. I'm a simple guy and that's one of the things I look for and these folks do it oh so well. Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned their fountain treats or their deserts. Well, you just need to check all that out too.
If I was forced to tell you which was more important to me, I'd always say being taken care of by nice people who were devoted to their work. You know, it’s a tough old world out there and people need a nice place to escape to. At least, that’s how I see it. Any restaurant’s menu is only my second concern.
You won't have to make that choice at Richmaid though – you always get both -- good food, lovely staff. They seem to have attracted some of the best people in the world to take care of their customers. In my case, it's a pleasantly happy coincidence that the food also just happens to be top-notch!...
Read moreFirst let me say this, when I do a review, it is not done Maliciously at all. I had to say that first. I did not take pictures of the food and the deterioration out of respect for the employees, and the owner. They have to be given a chance to correct the errors. Now, we are the grandparents that came in with the baby on 09/22/22. We stopped at Richmaids because we were out of town and could not find a Denny’s nor IHOP (later found down the streets). so we went oin. Right away I seen that the place is old. Needs a MAKEOVER. A BBL for restaurants. Sheesh. Didn’t judge, because these be the best places for great food. So we were sat down by the a young guy, very smart looking and handsome, yes the greeter. Jodi was our waitress and she was AMAZING. Her personality throughout the whole restaurant was 100%. She needs to win the Lottery so she can rest her feet and be whoever she wants to be. Every waitress was on point, but not like Jodi. Now the cook. I did not meet him, but he looked tired, burnt out. Food was horrible. Alot of elderly ppl eat here, so that’s why the Owner gets away with the horrific food that was placed in front of me. Horrible is an understatement. Remember this is not malicious this is constructive criticism. Old plates, cups, and silverware. Nasty, sticky menus, and wore out furniture. During the pandemic they gave companies the PPP Loans, why they didn’t used it, who knows. The star is for the Greeter, and the waitresses ONLY. The cook needs to be fired, he doesn’t like his job. I watched him. No smile, nor motivation. No energy (He might have been sick or something, who knows, won’t judge). There was something wrong with my eggs. Taste like something Metallicky (made up word). Did not taste like eggs. So the bathroom, I only seen one, but it could’ve been more, who knows, and soon as I got in the bathroom I smell urine everywhere it just smell like urine everywhere and that’s all I have to say this review is not meant to hurt anyone this review is not done out of spite this man this review is not maliciously intended towards anyone but the truth is the truth this place needs a makeover a facelift. And I say this in a with a good heart and a good spirit thank you for...
Read moreWe were staying at an RV park at 5 and Hwy 12. We were very hungry since we didn't eat dinner last night. SO suggested we go to Denny's because it was so close. I don't mind eating there, but I wanted to try something local. I found Richard on Google and Yelp, both with excellent reviews. And I love broasted chicken, which is one of their specialties. Old fashioned diner, with a statue of Betty Boop near the entrance. So many vintage memorabilia adorn the walls, it was terrific!! The menu is diner-like. Breakfast served all day, burgers, Senior menu, and their popular broasted chicken. He ordered an enchilada omelette with country potatoes and a pancake. I ordered pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy and coleslaw with a dinner salad. And we ordered one broasted chicken breast just to try it. Everything was delicious. But, their reputation for broasted chicken is well deserved!! Crispy, light skin with the juiciest meat I've ever tasted. We devoured that piece of chicken in meeting seconds, despite the fact it was HOT from the fryer!! His omelette was full of beef, cheese and enchilada sauce. Country potatoes were awesome. But that chicken was worth mentioning again!!! Unfortunately, they asked if we wanted dessert. Are you kidding?? We were stuffed to the gills!!. But if course they had bread pudding, so we ordered a piece!! The only complaint I had was that it wasn't warmed all the way thru. The bread was soft, eggy, had the right amount of raisins and currents and a lovely custard sauce all over it. We're only in Lodi a week, but I guarantee well be back at least once or twice before we leave!! Be sure to get in there and order some broasted chicken and...
