This place caters to the wealthy. Numerous sales people wander the aisles and will greet you with a smile, then lead you to the most expensive version of whatever item you ask for, plus try to sell you things you didn't ask for. If you ward them off and look carefully at the prices, you can find some reasonable deals, though I don't think it's any better than say Rite Aid or buying online. But to have so many salespeople wandering the aisles, you know they're overcharging for a lot of their products, so I always feel like I'm likely to step into an overpriced trap at some point.
One thing I do like is they carry a lot of stuff you won't find at drug stores or even places like GNC. Xylitol and Erythritol sweetener, for example.
But beyond the slick-talking salespeople, what I really couldn't stand was a full rack of "The New American" magazine next to the exit door. They didn't have any other magazines available, just a grid of 9 different issues of this Libertarian/Ultra conservative propaganda rag brought to you by The John Birch society (one of whose founders was Fred Koch of Koch Industries). First headline my wife and I see says Native Americans are trying to steal land. Yeah, what, from those nice folk that stole the land from the Native Americans in the first place and then broke treaty after treaty, pushing the Indians into poverty and onto barren lands where they could no longer support themselves? Oh, did I mention my wife is Native American? Next headline says the EPA is waging a war on coal. Yeah, big bad EPA is finally setting limits on coal plants now that solar and wind and natural gas have made coal so unprofitable that no investment company will pay to build a new coal plant anyway. I know someone who works for an EPA subcontractor and believe me, ever since the Bush era their hands have been pretty well tied by powerful business interests. But of course those headlines appeal to rich, out of touch white folk which is probably the same demographic that expensive health supplements and "helpful", slick-talking salespeople appeal to. I may be somewhat affluent and white, but I won't be shopping here again.
I went back a couple weeks later wanting to check the cover price of The New American. Online they're $2.50 an issue. At Clarks, a little green hand-printed sign says they're $0.95 for one, $1.50 for two, or $1.85 for three. Basically giving them away for about what it costs to print and ship them. But I also found they'd added a second magazine rack containing a few dozen different health and whatever magazines. Did they read this review and try to tone down the New American pushing? It's still pretty pushy what with having its own separate rack set to the left so you see it first, but I'll raise my review by one star. Still won't be shopping there unless those mags...
Read moreTotally unprofessional !! Clark’s nutrition leadership like to use intimidation when speaking to and deal with customers. So I was rushing into work when I forgot my mask in the car. After a few items I was looking around when I realized I forgot. At the point two people were yelling at me and chasing after me I spoke to me I’m a. Extremely aggressive manner telling me “You have to wear a mask before you enter the store”. When I tried to explain that forgot and to apologize they , again with aggression, cut me off and aggressively restating the same point. So, almost from the very beginning it felt like this individual, Crystal, brought another individual, Nick, to intimidate me. There are right ways and wrong ways in dealing with people. Just approach me and simply have a conversation, now, that would have been a stellar way to approach a paying customer. I mean ,hey if you want to shop at store where people the manager is extremely rude, disrespectful, and bossy to customers, feel free. However, I’m going to spend my money where the customer is appreciated for their dollar. And this is why online shopping is so great, as a customer I don’t have to deal with incompetent Individuals who act aggressively out fear instead of rational thinking.
Oh , one more thing, if Crystal is like that with customers. I wonder if she is failing to engage here associates in...
Read moreI used to go with a friend from church who'd go shopping there regularly so I felt it was a good store for healthy food and other products. I fell in love with a certain hand cream and went looking for it there but was told that they didn't carry it so I settled for what the girl said was a good cream also, I had specified I didn't want anything with mint or mental so I was surprised when I opened the bag at home, to find that this cream did in fact have peppermint. Bad enough it cost me twenty five dollars, but that I let her convince me after I trusted much in that rep or word of my friend's high recommendation, I felt almost insulted.
I had a chance to return the cream today. It was a rather hot day but I decided to deal with this after I got a response so soon after I posted my complaint. I almost didn't want to deal with this due to the hot weather but I did have a friend drive me over and I got my money back. The young man and his manager were nice and didn't make me wait around...
