Najwas is a wonderful, comfortable spot to come through for some hearty, tasty food. The fact that it's a combo restaurant with Angelos just makes the menu so incredibly broad.
While I'll agree with others and say that the Angelos Spaghetti may not be the highlight, the sandwiches from that 'side' of the restaurant tend to be simple and filling. I do miss the 'salad bar' of accoutrements that the 'old' Angelos used to provide.
With that said, the highlight of this place is Najwa's Mediterranean dishes. While a bit pricier than most counter-order style spaces, many of the dishes are quite reasonable.
This particular visit my family and I picked out a bunch of the appetizers and sides to share. The lentil soup is a particular favorite. I don't know what illegal substance they sprinkle on the fried crunchy croutons adorning the soup, but I could eat a bucket full, and they add a wonderful crunch to the smooth lentil soup.
The fried cauliflower florets were also a total hit at our table. The edges crispy, but not too greasy, and seasoned well, these were devoured quickly.
The roasted broccoli florets with feta and lemon were a bit less of a hit. I think were they roasted much longer, with singed edges and a 'sauce' of feta and lemon added, they'd be better. They were still good dipped in the provided tahini sauce, but we probably wouldn't get them again.
The schwarma fries with vegetarian chicken alternative meat were also tasty, although expensive. When are 'smothered and covered' friend-anything NOT tasty, though.
Finally, we got a 'triple dip sampler' of hummus, baba ghanoush, and mutabal. The hummus, as has been mentioned over and over is top tier. Absolutely delicious. I personally very much enjoyed the baba ghanoush. The mutabal was a new flavor for me, but it was a fun taste to experiment with.
All in all, this spot is a great place to grab a relatively quick, affordable bite and I recommend a visit. I do wish there was a bit more provided in the serving sizes for the price, but I still highly...
Read moreFirst, do not be fooled by the location of this fine restaurant. It is located on a busy street in a semi-industrial area adjacent to a freeway. I can't imagine why the owners chose to situate their business in such a neighborhood. Nonetheless, this place is a diamond in the rough. The smallish menu contains genuine Mediterranian faire and everything is hand made on the premises of truly quality ingredients. I chose this place based on other Google Reviews because I was looking for a vegetarian meal and I was not disappointed. By the way, the majority of the selections have meat in them, so anyone can go either way. To the specifics: The interior is open with a tasteful decor. The tables are glass-topped over white linen. The atmosphere is subdued with quiet guitar music piped in. The staff greets every customer at the door and everyone was universally courteous and knowledgeble. I started with the feta fingers (pictured) and found them delicate and flavorful. My main course was the falafel plate (pictured) consisting of three balls of rice (choice of white or brown), a large salad (including pickles and beets), and some of the best hummus I have eved tasted. For my beverage, I choose their signature lemonade festooned with chopped mint. When the plate was first served (superior presentation, by the way) I thought there would not be enough to satisfy my big appetite, but I came away so stuffed that I had to forego dessert. This restaurant will not disappoint you. I highly...
Read moreThis restaurant-cafe is ultra modern and has a classy feeling atmosphere. Unfortunately, we experienced poor service during our only experience at this location.
Our server was impatient with us at first (it was our first time visiting and now it will be our only) and then inattentive during the rest of our visit. I suppose maybe they were short-staffed, though it wasn't terribly busy.
I ordered chicken strips, and he must have heard me wrong because he rung me up for an order of Feta Fingers. It would have been too much of a hassle to chase him down to correct my order, (see: inattentive) so I settled for them, but I don't really like feta much to be honest so I only ate a few out of courtesy to the chef. (I'm sure they were quality as far as feta fingers go, but they were not what I asked for..)
Finally, he forgot to bring our drinks out to us, and never once came around to check on us/offer refills. We specifically ordered options with refills available because we had hoped to have one perhaps, but our server never came back to our table even once after delivering the bill WITH our meal. Awkward.
My girlfriend says the Stuffed Grape Leaves were not so great, but she enjoyed the Tabouli so I left a star on. I only reserve my one-star reviews for the worst of places. Still we will not be...
