I need to to trim a star from my earlier review based on a couple of return visits. Most recently, our food, and that of the table next to us, came out cold. A couple of times, craft taps that we, and apparently lots of other people liked, were out. We like it still a bunch, but will probably give it a rest for a bit.
My original review: We have recently become avid fans of this place. About as unpretentious as it gets, the drinks are strong and reasonably priced. The tap list is longer than you might expect from the evident heritage. It includes a half-dozen or more craft taps and bottles, in addition to a good selection of the usual suspects. Prices for the craft pints are about the same as you'll find at your local craft brewery. Taco Tuesday is a huge favorite locally as far as I can tell. It is a full size corn tortilla cooked fresh with very basic fillings, but it's really hard to argue with anything that's got about a half a pound of shredded cheese on it. All that for a dollar. But wait, there's more. Thursdays they have fall-off-the-bone tender ribs. It tastes like the barbecue sauce is homemade, but I can't confirm that. It does, however, taste a little different from night to night. It has been good each of the four times we have gone. Tonight it had a little extra heat, which made it about as good as it gets. So, for a little over a fin, you get three big, meaty baby back ribs, a medium-sized-ish baked potato, a salad with tomato and cheese, and a piece of grilled garlic toast. If there is a better value happy hour nearby, I would like to know about it. The staff is friendly. The crowd is varied and skews somewhat older. No kids are allowed. The interior reflects the bar's longevity. You can imagine that you're walking on the same linoleum that was in place when it opened in 1934. If this sounds like your kind of place, it...
Read moreProbably the best place I ever worked. Don't know about the new owners but I doubt Murphy would have let anyone that operates with less than the reputation of quality and service he worked so hard to make for it run the place. I've been going there since 76 but maybe 10 times until 2000 worked there between 2008-2013 helping wherever I could and have seldom seen the courtesy professionalism and service of the employees and have met many of the best people in my life there. My cousin lost a 100.00 $ bill one busy Friday night and didn't realize it tell we got home about 1am. We returned just before closing, explained the situation to the bartender and Riley, the doorman overheard, asked a couple questions about when & where and then returned the bill having found it on the floor while Collecting glasses for the bartender. That's rare , but not there, I know any one there would have done the same. I was not new to working with bartenders, cooks and bar managers but I had returned to Redlands after a ,20 yr absence and had a chance to help with the family and had to get away from drinking to much and quit for that reason only, contrary to some. I just want to say thank you to Murphy and crew, and congratulations to Mike and his, I hear nothing but good, and...
Read moreMy girlfriend was in the hospital across the way and I had not eaten in days, my mother offered to bring me food, she saw this place was near by and I found they had what looked like a decent menu. I asked her to get me a Canyon Bacon Cheeseburger and a loaded baked potato. This "loaded baked potato" is the saddest most disappointing thing ever.. dry, not edible and gross to even look at. The cheeseburger was not any better. I ate the onion ring off of it. Then went back to eat just the patty, I took one bite of the meat and threw up, the flavor was awful and not cooked well. This was supposed to be my first solid meal after a really trying time and it was beyond disappointing, the hospital staff was nice enough to give me a pb n j sandwich which got me through the evening.
It also took almost an hour for them to give her the food. And they did not have to go cups for a diet coke I asked for.
Very disappointing and not in anyway...
