Bumper 2 Burger | Hamburger restaurant — Restaurant in Lombard

After eating here, I realized there are at least 2 different types of beef patties in this world. Bumper 2 Burger patties and everyone else. Honestly, I didn't think twice about stopping in as it was crowded and looking at the food, it didn't seem like it was bad. After all , how can you mess up a burger.

Well $40 later, 1 sick kid and 2 lost appetites, there is no way we'd ever visit this place again. The burger didn't taste right, it was over cooked, bun was soggy, fries were just basic fries, 2 milk shakes were just chocolate syrup added to soft serve. I am not one to leave reviews, but after throwing away $40 worth of food (expect $20 per person eating here), I had to review.

The good, if you eat here the people are friendly, it seemed like a great environment. That's all with the good... We tried the burgers, grilled cheese, milk shakes and seasoned fries. The burgers, simply put were a 0/10, do not order these unless you know what you are getting. The beef may have been high quality, but there was something really off. The texture was not as expected and I have never tasted beef such as this (we ended up throwing them out wasting $20). The bun on the burger was neat how they burned in the logo, but I'd rather have my food 3 minutes faster than to worry about that. The fries were the same standard fries you find at just about any hot dog stand (bland in flavor), and seasoned with what may have been a mixture of paprika and salt (not 100% sure, but it wasn't the best seasoned fries I had). The milk shakes were simple, chocolate syrup mixed into vanilla soft serve, topped with whip cream and more syrup. The only part of the meal we were able to actually eat was the Grilled Cheese, which was a blend of different cheeses melted on a nice size piece of bread and they allowed the edges to get crispy (which was good). But it's a grilled cheese, not exactly something that can be messed up, nor something you really go out to eat for...

In short, this is probably a great Halal burger, but if you're expecting something like a Portillo's beef tasting burger, you'll be wrong as the burgers we had did not taste like beef at all (I couldn't even tell you the taste as I have never eaten anything similar in flavor, it wasn't good). The beef was so far off on flavor, I am wondering if they accidentally slipped us a vege burger.

Finally onto the price... I am not sure if Halal is more expensive than other places, but the prices here are unrealistic. $8-9 for a burger that's no bigger than a McDouble from McDonalds, tossed onto a Soggy Bun and overloaded with bland toppings. Two days later I am writing this review because I need closure to how bad this place was. I feel bad for the people running it as they were very friendly, but the food coming out of here is awful, friendly staff aside, it's about saving the next person $40 and...

Delicious food! I am also super happy they have a beyond burger and amazing seasoned fries! Order them crispy; you'll thank me later. It is a bit of a wait in the drive-thru, but that's because everything is made fresh to order and definitely worth the wait time.

Edit: The food is still fantastic, but the staff act so rudely to customers I had to change my review. My small order took over an hour. I showed up when my order was marked as ready, but they told me that they were still preparing it. Like, why mark it as ready then? After waiting another 20 minutes for them to call me for my food just to find out they forgot about me and its been sitting there getting soggy and cold. Then the tall kid hands me my food and when I told him my ticket had drinks too he rolled his eyes at me and gave me the wrong drinks and sizes because he was too put off by me asking for what I paid for. The only kind person who didn't look at me like a jerk was the shorter blonde kid; he was the kindest person there. He apologized for the mistake and helped me immediately. I hope another restaurant poaches him because he is too good to work there. That or they need to clean house. Hire more people like him. I mean, he was basically running the whole place himself while everyone else sat there angry for having a paycheck. I have 15 years in the food service/management industry. Disappointed in the service - review is regarding order place on 10/31/20. Placed a phone order for 4 regular hamburgers with all the included toppings but specifically asked for the bumper sauce on the side (we live 30 mins away and didn't want the burger to get soggy from the sauce). We arrived to the drive thru and the wait was too long (defeats the whole purpose of calling in advance!) so decided to go inside to pick up the order. Got home and noticed - NO SAUCE for any of the burgers. Unfortunately, without the sauce, the burger was tasteless and definitely overpriced. Called the restaurant to inform them and the girl on the phone said "well, we only give 1 sauce per 2 burgers".. what???!!!! I tried to explain that we didn't ask for extra sauce, but rather, we asked that the sauce that would normally be included on the burger just be placed on the side instead. The receipt did say "No sauce on burger, sauce on the side" so not sure what went wrong. The girl then said the manager stepped out of the store and she took my number to have the manager call me back to remedy the situation (obviously we couldn't drive another 30 mins to go back just for the sauce). Well - never received a call back. Unprofessional and unfortunately, our meal was overly priced and not tasty - not sure if we would ever go back or recommend this place.
