Went on a Saturday at noon. It appears priority was given to those who speak the same native language. People who arrived after me and the people after those people received service first before I was given an opportunity to place my order. Hello there, Hi, Hey you, just let me know that you know I exist by acknowledging me, and not even once said, " Sorry, I will be with you in a minute." That would have been acceptable and avoided me giving this mix review. At the exact moment I was about to give up and leave, they spared the time to take my simple order. Just maybe they can & are able to recover from this bad first expression.
My order was to go. I ordered two bottled snapples and one order of pan-fried dumplings [8 count]. Well, normalcy, for me, if it is more than a 10 minute wait, you should let the customer know beforehand. Also, I could have asked. They said 20 minutes.....
I was ever so gracious....38 minutes, and my order was not ready, more than likely was not in existence. So, this is what they did: it was taking it from somebody's order, likely someone that had ordered after me for my order to be actually ready & then given to me. Obviously, my order wasn't prepared. Otherwise, it would have been waiting for me to pick it up. Customer service is significantly lacking etiquette in addition to discriminatory prioritization of service & food orders.
On to the food...I admit that these one-sided pan-fried dumplings are mediocre mainly due to the non crispyness. I prefer my pan-fried dumplings to be fried on ALL sides. These one-sided pan-fried dumplings are somewhat flavorable if only they had taken the time frying & making it crispy, of which they had plenty of time to do & it would have at least made up for the service. Lack of crispness was the nail to the coffin, and I most likely will not be back anytime soon to revisit despite receiving bad...
Read moreThe Golden Pheasant visit suggested by a co worker who lives in the L.A area. He has been to many different places in the United States as well. We he works his home area, he comes here.
I was in the mood for Egg Foo Young. Thinking it would be a scrambled egg sheet with usual vegetables. However, the menu had different variations along with it (Beef, chicken, vegetables, pork, shrimp). All of these different price points associated with them. The vegetable Egg Foo Young being the least expensive.
Anyway, I received the Egg Foo Young. To my surprise and disbelief it came in a soup form. I was expecting it a regular dry form on a plate platter. Well, I see all kinds of vegetables on the top of the soup bowl and had to dig all for the egg Foo young like a treasure hunt. The size & thickness of the egg was very thick (1/4 inch) by my estimation. Inside the egg was cooked Hash Brown shreds. I appreciated that fact but not so much drowning in soup liquid.
It was a good taste, but a little more salty for my taste. I added the finely crushed Black Pepper that the restaurant provided.
Now I also had an Appetizer: Pan Fried Pot Stickers. They were excellent.
The other members of our party had other good stuff that in retrospect, wish I had.
I give the Golden Pheasant a 4 stars rating. They didn't provide an honor to Military or Veterans with a discount. The price points were mainly starts above $12 + as a minimum. The amount of food for those prices you can order a couple of items and feed a party...
Read moreThis place is definitely my go to spot when I want Chinese food. They changed management and renovated their restaurant since Fall 2016. After all the renovation, this place feels a lot cleaner now with new chairs and tables; such a welcoming ambiance. Not to mention, all the servers are very friendly and attentive. Parking is fairly easy. They have their own private lot, so that's good. I hate having to find parking when its shared with other businesses. Drinks: I remember seeing a big cooler with beer, wine, sodas, Thai iced tea, and lemon iced tea. Food: Great food, large portion, affordable prices, and contains no MSG. When I dined in for lunch, they asked if I wanted Iced or Hot water and then they gave me complimentary Soup (Egg Flower Soup or Hot and Sour Soup) and Salad with house dressing (sesame dressing) on it. Their lunch menu is the best part about this place because it is so affordable with Entrees starting from $6.50 to $8.49 and all lunch specials are served from the time they open at 11AM to 4PM. My absolute favorite dishes from the lunch menu are Green String Beans, Orange Chicken (hands down the BEST Orange Chicken Ive ever had with lots of meat and no battered nonsense), and Crispy Pan Fried Beef Noodles! No need to order any fried rice since my meal came with a side of rice or fried rice. What a satisfying lunch! It does get a little loud because it's always packed but that doesn't bother me because honestly its part of the experience eating at an authentic...
