My 8 months pregnant lovely wife and I were on our way from LA to Berkeley in a two seater rental Ford 500, when we craved for some mexican. We asked our GPS to take us to a mexican joint. It took us off US 101, on to Cal 1 North and then to the peaceful city of Lompoc and to Angela's restaurant.
I am from India and like a lot of Indians, I have grown up a vegetarian. Teh joint, when we reached here, had nothing vegetarian available. I whispered "Taco Bell" to my wife and I think they overheard us.
So, in the true spirit of small business owners, the two lovely ladies here told us that they can do infinitely better than Taco Bell, and they wouldn't allow us to leave without feeding us something. And they went on to prepare an awesome vegetarian meal for us from scratch.
This day was super awesome. Full blown pregnancy, our little two seater car and such amazing treatment by these two ladies. They shared everything about their lives, struggles and goals. They could have been any of my aunts from my hometown. I could not believe how easily they opened up to us. The Burrito they prepared for us were the best I have ever had. Long live Angela's Kitchen!
Folks! if you want the worlds' best burritos... here is...
Read moreI was apprehensive at first when I pulled up and no one was there. I visited early in the evening on a Monday.
The restaurant is non-descript with was wall art and tables spaced far apart. So far apart there are only a few tables. Remnant of COVID?
I was alone in the restaurant for most of my meal. I had a chimichanga with awesome moist shredded beef. I could hear my meal being cooked - verify satisfying!
Dinner was fresh and tasted well. It was pretty basic, chimichanga was a bit more tortilla than meat (lots of air). The salsa appetizer was very good, and spicy hot. Usually salsa is mild or low heat. Spicy salsa was enjoyable.
There was little table service (I was alone after all). I approached the hostess table to pay, not sure if that is expected. The meal price was very affordable I was checked out and served by the cook - I find that rewarding. An apron will flour means the tortillas are fresh!
I only rated 4 stars for the ambiance. Food was great, fresh,...
Read moreAngela's looks like a hole-in-the-wall and is easy to miss. There's a small parking lot. We walked in and were greeted and told to sit anywhere. We were given chips and salsa like most mexican restaurants. We can tell right away that both were home made and the salsa had fresh onion and cilantro on top. The salsa is spicy, just a heads up. Each dinner comes with a small salad. They serve chicken mole! It's my favorite so I was very happy about this. My husband got chicken fajitas. It came with grilled onions, green and red bell peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. Every thing was seasoned perfectly. Their corn tortillas are homemade and fresh! They are a bit thick but it's great to know they were handmade in house. We even got some extra to go. This is going to be our go-to for Mexican food. It felt like coming home to grandma's house. Thank you Angela's. We will...
