There's a lot different about Turiya. You can feel it before you even get into the winery. You either need to know where you are going or find it by a very happy mistake, but the reward is waiting. Many people pay for events at other places for the winemaker to hold a special tasting in the barrel room. At Turiya, it's typical for Angela to be there. Angela (the winemaker/goddess) is friendly and approachable and by the way, this chic makes the most amazing Bordeaux style red wines I've ever known! I love that she takes single varietals that are normally lost in complicated blends and highlights them in a single varietal bottling. Then she uses those beautiful varietals and turns then into blends like I've never tasted! Her approach is unique in a world of wineries that move things through with commercial quickness. Angela doesn't bottle the wines according to industry dates, she waits until the wines are ready. If it takes 44 months, then it'll be there that long! Nothing is done in the winery to "good enough." It's all high quality and done to perfection. If you want an example, look at the bottled which are thick and heavy glass with the label screen printed in gold and hand dipped in Golden wax to finish. My recommendation is that you make an appointment to come taste the magic that is Turiya. Ask questions. Hear the stories. Look around and see a side that is rarely seen. Then pick up some bottles of the ultra limited wine that comes out of this winery, which are a work of heart and art and ask for them to be signed. Keep those bottles for special times because they'll be your favorites in your collection. You can print out the glowing reviews from the wine enthusiast magazines and blogs and show them off to your friends... and you got to see where the magic happens! Ps get on the allocation last if it's open. That way you'll have first dibs on the new releases! The list is limited in the number of members so jump on it if you have the chance! After the allocation members get theirs, the inventory can go on alert...
Read moreMy wife and I are ashamed to admit we are were wine snobs....most of our cellar was Italian and French and we were Poo Pooing most California wines with the possible exception of being fortunate enough to taste an old Mondavi Opus,
HOWEVER, I must say that in the last few years, we have fallen in love with Turiya wines....
WHY YOU ASK? SEVERAL AMAZING REASONS:
-Angela Soleno the the top vintner and owner of Turiya, has an exceptional pallet and an incredible vision when it comes to taking the best grapes the Santa Yáñez Valley has to offer and transforming them into wines that wisk you away to far off places and feed your soul.
-All the Turiya vintage bottles we’ve tried were aged at least 40 months and some longer at 48. The wines are also not filtered and in my opinion use fewer sulphites than a big production wine. We’ve never had sulphate headaches the next morning after drinking several bottles of this nectar the night before.
Note too that most major wine labels barrel wine for the bare minimum two years, remove the residue for clarity/appearance and add lots of sulphites due to manufacturing and transport requirements for major distribution. All that to meet certain economic needs of a large factory wine production operation. Not Turiya, it’s the anti thesis of a major wine producer; small batches, long barrel time to allow the wine to be what it should be, meaty sediment that enhances the pallet and in my opinion, much smaller sulphite quantities because the winery sells direct with no middleman.
I strongly recommend you sample some of these wines at Turiya....your pallet and your soul will...
Read moreAngela and her ability to craft reds that fit a wide variety of palates is something that is a huge highlight for Turiya wines. Out of the five my girlfriend and I tried, there was not one dislike among the group.
She was also amazing as she introduced each of the wines she selected for our tasting. Not only did she gives us the flavor notes behind them, she also provided the information behind each of the grapes she selected and why she picked them. The flavoring behind each of the wines seemed like it was a demonstration of her passion for her craft.
This is also coupled with the fact that she was so welcoming! She provided answers to any question we both asked with an infectious enthusiasm that helped create an ideal atmosphere that felt perfect.
Thank you for such an amazing...
