Saddle up, Shawty!
Yee-haw!! Slip on the cowboy boots & cutoff jean shorts, it's line dancing time! Cowboy Country Saloon is a honkytonk conveniently located in North Long Beach, across from Winco Foods. Drinks are flowin, toes are tappin & the Jello's jiggling.
Cowboy Country is open Wed, Fri & Sat 6pm - 2am. Those in the know arrive before 7pm for no cover, with $5 cover afterwards. Live music from various bands begins at 9pm. For those new to line dancing, there are workshops at 7pm & 8pm for instruction on 2 dances. On my visit, we learned "Just Gettin Started" & "Funky Donkey". The instructor goes through a quick tutorial, but don't be discouraged if it's too fast paced for you. Just have fun with it & you're guaranteed to have a good time.
I've been taking line dancing classes for about a year, so I have a familiarity with the basic moves. However, there are some great dancers on display strutting their stuff. Man, I want to be able to dance like them. I wish I knew the steps to everything, because I don't like being a wallflower. I did get to bust out "Just Dance", "Designated Drinker" & "Power Jam", among others. Oh well! I guess it's an excuse to visit more often. And, with no cover before 7pm, why the heck not?
A full bar & a kitchen offering the usual bar suspects like nachos are available. For those daring (or drunk) enough, a mechanical bull taunts you with a subliminal "Hey, stupid! You think you can ride me? Joo loose!!". At the time of this review, I haven't slipped on my big boy pants & given the bull a whirl, yet. But, I will! And, I'll turn that bull into a heifer, if you know what I'm sayin ;p
The dance floor is a little cramped, but we managed just fine not to be hit by an errant elbow or buttock. The DJ kept things grooving, including my first attempts at 2-steppin.
Free parking is available in front of Cowboy Country Saloon in their own private lot, along the street & across at Winco Foods.
Good times are to be had at Cowboy Country Saloon. Low key & unpretentious, and that's the way people like it. Can't wait to come back for another night of dancing.
Whatcha waitin for, pardner?? Mosey on over to Cowboy Country Saloon for food, drinks, dancing & fun. If someone asks if you want to "Tush Push" with their "Achy Breaky Heart", just hope they were referring to dancing and not something else...
Read moreIt was an ordinary Friday night. I made the trip out to Cowboy Country with my brother, as we had done for years. Memories of years of good experiences at Cowboy Country would come to a screeching halt on this 'ordinary' Friday night. After a great evening of dancing, conversation, and good company, last call was announced. The lights brightened, and people began to migrate to the parking lot. Shortly after reaching the parking lot, my brother began to argue with a man over some something not worth arguing about. This man became extremely aggressive, and I feared that he would try to take action against my brother. Keep in mind that the following sentences depict events that took place immediately adjacent to Cowboy Country Security guards (within 2 or 3 feet). As any loving brother (and sane human being for that matter) would do, I attempted to stop this man by telling him he needed to stop immediately. I was met with a fist square on my face which shattered my nose and broke several bones in my face. After hitting the ground, bleeding profusely, this man jumped on top of me, and began choking me. I was choked on the ground for a total of one minute (immediately adjacent to Cowboy Country security guards) before the man was pulled off by an unknown person. One of the security guards on staff took the man who assaulted me into his car and began to drive off. My brother attempted to take a picture of the license plate on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, A COWBOY COUNTRY SECURITY GUARD exited his vehicle, took my brother's phone out of his hands, picked up my brother's body, and threw him to the ground from a height of approximately three feet, deleted the photograph of the license plate, then proceeded to break my brother's phone. Luckily, I managed to snap three clear photographs of this security guard's license plate through my blood stained phone. This is absolutely ridiculous, completely unacceptable behavior, and not to mention CRIMINAL!! And to think this person is literally paid to protect the people and premises. Absolutely pathetic. Needless to say, Cowboy Country lost two very good customers that day. I will never go back, and suggest you stay away as well. 1 star is WAY too good for...
Read moreMy first time there, I met some friends there and I had an open tab. I only bought myself a drink and the person that I was with so that was 2 drink when I went to go close tab the person that was helping me (ZANE) and had my tab open when I went to go close it she was very rude and Raul bar help noticed that she took two people that just walked up to the bar before myself so I walked over and I told her that she took two people before me and I was there before them and she ( ZANE) told me I was rude because I was yelling at her well the music was very loud wasnât yelling at her mind You I only had one beer because I was driving so I told her you cost yourself your tip so she went to tell the other bartender what I had said that was on the other side of her that I was rude. Iâm guessing thatâs what she told her so when she closed out my tab, she threw my credit card at me and I had let Raul know that she threw my credit card at me and therefore she didnât charge me for my drink so I asked I go but I was going to close my tab but I wanted to purchase two bottles of water so heâs the one that told me that she wasnât gonna charge me so I asked him to charge me for two bottles of water and he also went to the other bartender on the other side what she did, she took two customers before me so therefore she came to me where I was sitting at the bar and told me because I was rude because I had attitude and I yelled at her I did not yell at her. Mind you The music was very loud. It was crowded . Itâs too bad that bar tenders like Zane makes all the other bartender's at Cowboy Country look bad⌠Will I go back I donât know⌠it was a bad experience for my first time.. I think she needs to be trained over again in customer service.. she makes cowboy country look bad for business.. retail customer service is my back ground I use train people in customer service..after all word of mouth is your best advertising..
