Main Chick Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Long Beach

Chicken is very tender, very fresh, and they are juicy. The sweet bread adds to the experience.

That's where my review diverges. I got the combo #3, which comes with 2 sandwiches and fries. I got the medium spice level. Just by looking at the sandwich alone, they are quite tiny, which in turn gives you the illusion that you are just getting more chicken for your buck, but you're just getting a smaller bun.

My biggest gripe is the amount of coleslaw in my sandwich. It was a very thin layer, literally a tablespoon's worth. You could barely taste that it was there.

Another issue is they rely heavily on dry rub to achieve their higher spice levels. So while the milder sandwiches remain juicy, the dry rub for the spicier sandwiches leaves a dry feeling in your mouth. My brother got the hot and thought the same.

The fries were okay. They didn't taste salted. It seems they sprinkler dry rub of the spice level you chose (or some other type of seasoning that isn't salt). I don't mind adding spiciness to the fries, but there needs to be a modicum of saltiness to them.

Service was fast, and they seem to be keeping up with COVID guidelines. This place is in the expensive side for what I got. At $17 for 2 small sandwiches and fries is a bit much (no drink). If in paying that much, I want a moderate amount of coleslaw on the sandwiches. I don't mind paying $17 for a meal, but all the ingredients need to be up to par (in taste, size, quantity, quality, etc.), not just the chicken.

Would I eat here again? I wouldn't choose it, but if someone else wanted it I wouldn't abject. There are better hot chicken sandwich places in the neighboring areas for about the same price. I won't name them, as my intent isn't to promote another place in one of the reviews of this place. I do believe this place has the potential...

Was able to try the Supreme level spicy chicken sandwich here and oh boyyy. It was definitely not to be taken lightly.

The last time I came here they told me that if I ate one of those, they would take a photo of me and put it on the wall so I knew one day I would return to do this and I have done it.

Aside from it being brutally spicy, I still very much enjoyed the sandwich. I think these are perhaps some of the best Nashville hot chicken sandwiches you can get in the area, at least when compared to the many chains that have emerged in the past couple of years.

What I like about Main Chick is that it’s located not far from where I live and additionally, it has some really fast service. Every experience I’ve had coming here has been good and the workers have never been rude or disrespectful.

To be honest, whenever I want Nashville hot chicken, I just come here and I don’t really bother going anywhere else because this is a safe place to go and I know that whatever I pay for the food is worth it because the quality has never dwindled. I can’t say the same for other hot chicken joints…

First time customer. I noticed this is a spot for many student. I even walked around asking them for their advice. So, I bought everything on their menu to provide a fair review. The chicken was surprisingly tasty and the fries. Not dry and taste fresh. However, they had the same seasoning flavor (the sauce as well). At first it was good, but after a while the seasoning is just too much that it becomes salty and just too much of the same flavor. I do believe this food is over priced and providing a box half full with fries does not compensate the price. I enjoyed the the chicken without all the seasoning (Naked). Again , It is too over priced (Ex. Combo #1 is $13 and it contains a small slider, chicken strip and fries. Drink not included). I might be back, but definitely not a first option.
