June 5th, 2021, Last night, June 5th my wife and I went to the Cove for dinner. We have eaten there many times in the past but last night was a unique experience, one so that I will probably never go back. We ordered dinner, after 45 minutes we saw a dinner that resembled ours go to a table across the room. Shortly after that, the couple at that table got up and went to the waitress, it was not there dinner. While watching the waitress remove the plates and head back towards the kitchen, while never putting the plates down spoke with the kitchen staff and then proceeded to our table with those plates. I'm not sure about anyone else but during a pandemic I don't want food that was on someone else's table. We refused the plates, the waitress apologized and we were told that our dinners would be remade and that they were on the house. About 10 minutes later our dinners showed up at our table, the prime rib had been seared on both sides by either placing it in a skillet or on a flat top, the chicken scallopini was cold, the pasta had soaked up all the sauce and was so over cooked it was inedible. It was a soggy, mushy pile of starch. Needless to say, we didn't eat much that night, and we were charged for the meal minus the drinks and desert, all the while the cook had his mask down under his chin for the entire duration of our visit, you can see directly into the kitchen. We ended up taking the dinners home and fed them to our animals. We are active members of the business community on the peninsula and have recommended the cove to our client's, have purchased gift certificates for clients and have eaten there many times. This will all be changing as I'm sure the CDC and the health department would have a field day with this scenario. We will never recommend the cove to anyone again as this was one of the most disgusting dining experiences we have ever had in my 4 years of living here on the peninsula. Having a dinner in a restaurant from someone else's table reheated twice!!
June 9th, 2021 After speaking with the owner after this incident he admitted that what the kitchen did was wrong and that he were very sorry. He told me that he spoke with his cooks and revised his policies regarding many things after that night. I have changed my rating after this conversation in hopes that this is all true. My intention was never to hurt a local restaurant but bring to their attention a major issue with his kitchen. I personally will most likely not be eating there until new cooks are in place as old habits die hard but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Until this incident it was one of a few restaurants that we frequented on the Peninsula as there aren't many good choices. I hope the cove can maintain a higher standard. I am not able to delete this review from google so...
Read moreI have only ordered delivery from here so that is what my review will be about.
Best: The caesar salad is amazing, ordered it both times and nothing to complain about. The salmon dinner is also fantastic and I highly recommend it. They will also deliver bottled drinks, canned drinks, and snacks. The dog menu is awesome, my dog loves it and the portions are very generous even for a big dog. It's also great that they do delivery in a town that has very few delivery options. The delivery people are very polite, courteous, and very good at being on time. They also use high quality ingredients in their food, and package everything very nicely.
Neutral: The Cove Burger is okay, just a standard burger. I do like that they cook it perfectly the way I asked, some restaurants I will ask for well done and they will still undercook it. The fries are also okay, but not super high on my list. If you order the sourdough bread with your caesar salad it will come as toast, which I wasn't expecting, but that was also okay, but due to being delivered it was already cold (not a problem and not something I expect to retain heat).
Cons: Every time I order extra caesar dressing (and pay the charge for it) they don't give me extra. They just put one container of it in there, I've ordered this twice and didn't get any extra dressing either time. Also, I can tell the tartar sauce is good quality, but it has too much garlic taste for me (very strong) and not as tangy as most other tartar sauces. The first time I ordered delivery I also ordered a mojito that is on their online menu, but they called me back and said they don't actually make those and not sure why it's on the menu... so I'm not sure which alcoholic drinks they actually have. Based on the site they use, either you have to replace the item with a different drink of similar value (or something else on the menu) or cancel out your entire order and start over to take the charge off. That's really inconvenient but something I was willing to work with. Also, when I ordered the salmon dinner I asked for a side of fries to be charged extra (they do not have an option for an extra side of fries on the menu), but instead of fixing that they took off the rice from my order and subsituted in the fries. I didn't really like that, and at least would've preffered the vegetables to be substituted instead but they didn't ask.
Overall, I still give The Cove 5/5 stars because of the quality of food, service, and delivery. Just because it doesn't all appeal to my personal taste, that shouldn't take away from the quality and overall service of the restaurant. The little issues I dealt with aren't enough for me to be upset about or to give them a poor review because all of the good qualities of this restaurant far outweigh any small issues, and every...

I've been so fortunate to be able to share with you all my foodie adventures and appreciate everyone's time spent reading them!
That being said, with the wind blowing, the rain and hail coming down and the freezing temps on the way, I swung through one of my favorite places to eat (yes, I have a lot of favorites 😂), The Cove at PGC. I love the atmosphere here and the crew is never anything but amazing! I saw earlier this week that they were featuring a prime rib melt with garlic parmesan fries and I knew I had to have it! Chef Krista Lessenden and her crew in the kitchen work together seamlessly to generate some amazing looking food coming out the window.
Today's fare was simple. No frills and all the flavor! After slicing what seemed to be a mountain of their signature slow-smoked prime rib, they piled it on a couple pieces of thick sliced sourdough and added a nice smattering of grilled onions and cheddar cheese.
The crispiness and crunchiness of that sourdough shined... literally! 😂 Copious amounts of butter on that bread gave it a chance to crisp up while the cheese melted inside and blended all the flavors together. Every bite was chock full of tasty, juicy prime rib and those onions...oh my! I grabbed a side of horseradish sauce to dip my sammy in... every bite! Absolutely fabulous!
Don't even get me started on those fries! Cooked to perfection, nice and crispy, tossed in freshly minced garlic and parmesan cheese... simply divine! I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering my fries like this from now on when I stop by!
So if you're out and about in this crazy weather today, or any time really, and looking for a great meal in a fabulous setting, take the trip to the north end of Long Beach and stop on by The Cove at PGC on Pacific. Summertime is my favorite time to sit outside on their patio and enjoy a nice cold brew and great food. If you do stop in, tell em the foodie sent ya!
Until next time, cheers and beach appetit from your friendly neighborhood peninsula...
