Having spent a few days at Cape Disappointment State Park just 15 minutes up the road, this was one of the few modern, semi-upscale (not a dive) restaurants on the peninsula as far as I could tell. A bit of a dive, inside and out, the place could use a complete remodel or a deep cleaning at the very least. The prices are a bit on the high side for Mexican, but the service was decent. Fortunately, the chips and salsa were free because the chips were of the cheap, store-bought variety and, likely, the salsa was as well. We also added a side of guacamole ($5.25), probably the best value on the menu and not bad, having been properly seasoned and with hardly any of the less expensive tomato filler most places use. I had the #2 Combo, a taco, enchilada, and tostada with rice and beans ($11.95). The taco came with picadillo (shredded beef) on a store-bought, pre-fab taco shell that fell apart upon first bite because of the not-so-well drained meat and the cheap shell. If you know me, my biggest pet peeve at a Mexican restaurant is store bought chips and pre-fab taco shells, a sure sign of mediocre quality. The cheese and onion enchilada was actually quite good and the sauce tasty, I will give them that. But the tostada was a nightmare, coming on a, you guessed it, pre-fab tostada shell that was so soggy by the time I got to it that I could only eat it with a fork. I asked for “all beans, no rice”, but I got the rice anyway. The refried beans were actually quite tasty. My wife ordered a Cheese Quesadilla ($8.95), coming with a large dollup of guacamole, sour cream and diced tomatoes. A bit pricey for a tortilla filled with cheese, but this was one of the biggest quesadillas I have ever seen with loads o’ melted cheese inside a huge flour tortilla. Still not worth anything near $9, it was not a horrible value in contrast to the other menu items. CombatCritic Gives El Compadre 4 Bombs Out Of 10 … More Bombs Are Better! We’ve driven by so many times & always busy. We decided to drive down & give it a shot for dinner in a Friday night. Parking lot was till but we got a table right away. The menus are in the table / thought it was super cool at guest but then not because although I had to pull out my glasses, was a strain to see everything clearly. Chips & Salsa was placed in the table & drink orders taken. Margaritas had great fruit flavor but it’s on me to make sure to ask next time if there are multiple tequila options or just one kind (as didn’t appear to be a bar but later saw a small one in the opposite side of the building)…Food order was also taken & delivered quickly for the busyness. Hands down best Chicken Tortilla soup I’ve ever had! Highly Highly recommend it. The shrimp cocktail comprise was interesting “warm & soup like” that I’m not entirely sure about…The fajita quesadilla was gigantic & I loved the presentation with the rice & bean holders. Dessert had to be ordered because it was flan…pretty good size portion for the price…I generally am not a fan (in general husband is though) but I gave it a shot. Service was great - very attentive & fast. Definitely a place to give a try if on the peninsula.

A really pleasant surprise! Long Beach restaurants are very hit or miss and tend to coast on being in a tourist town. El Compadre exceeded my expectations and my family and I really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was a little run down, but drinks & food were good & the staff really hustled (they seemed to be understaffed, but they did a great job getting food out, filling drinks, & checking on our table). The food was traditional Mexican restaurant type fare & was served with chips & salsa. Our carne asada was cooked well and was tender, the beans & rice were well seasoned, and I loved the cilantro packed pico and highly recommend getting it on the side, it absolutely freshens up such a heavy meal. I also really enjoyed the enchiladas & chile relleno.

With the re-opening of dine in seating and a Friday night, they should have been better staffed. Our server seated us, 10 minutes later the busser brought us water, chips and salsa. 15 minutes after that our server came to take our order along with our drink order, 20 minutes after that we had to ask for our drinks, which the busser brought. 10 minutes later our food was brought to us by the busser, after she tried to deliver it to the wrong table. During this time 3 other tables were sat and had immediate service by another server. 15 minutes into and almost done, our server finally came to check on us and all she said was, "sorry, are you ready? I mean is everything okay?" we smiled and said nothing. 10 minutes later, with our plates pushed aside, our Togo boxes ready, (which the busser brought to us) we still hadn't received our check. We quietly went to the front counter to pay. As frustrated as I was with the situation I chose not to complain. Our server was obviously extremely overwhelmed and lost in the weeds the entire time, she had no help, aside from the busser. The "other server" was the manager and only picked up those tables because his only server he had on the floor couldn't get to them. They were also the only tables he paid attention to. Extremely disappointed in the management of this restaurant! Not that I wanted a discount or anything for free, but an apology and explanation of why it took so long from the manager should have happened. We still tipped our server, even with her terrible service, because at the end of the day.. Her manager should have stepped up and helped her with her existing tables, not just the ones he was going to make a...

The was out nineth year attending the kite festival and our first time trying this restaurant. We were basically ignored upon walking in, They was no "Hi, we'll be right with you" greeting even though the lady behind the register looked directly at as. We were finally sat at a table, which, unfortunately, had not been adequately cleaned. We did like the quick water and chips and salsa service once we were seated. The salsa itself was like water. The chips needed salt. As a matter of fact, all the food lacked flavor. It was all very bland. The shredded chicken in my taco and enchilada had no taste. It was almost as if all the flavor had been boiled away. There wasn't even salt or pepper on it. It was just dry and stringy. I had to ask for more watery salsa just to make it moist enough to eat. In the end, i just gave up and left half eaten items on my plate. My husband said his cheese enchilada and cheese stuffed pepper were very cheesy but also lacked proper seasoning. The portion sizes, however, were good. Our waiter never brought us a bill, nor could we get his attention, so we just walked to the front to pay. We attend the kite festival every year and will definitely not be coming back to...
