Agave Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Long Branch

We had a wonderful dinner here. The staff is so kind and attentive, and it’s a cute spot for a date night (with some big tables for large groups/families too). There is a children’s menu, so it is family friendly. There is also a parking lot that seems big enough. The horchata was excellent, and I enjoyed the salsa and warm chips they brought out. The entrees were top tier. I have had trouble finding a good mole poblano sauce in Monmouth county but there’s was perfect (I let my husband, who does not like mole, try it, and he now likes mole). The chicken was fall off the bone and cooked to perfection. Best chicken we’ve had in recent memory. His burrito Jalisco was huge and the steak was really good and flavorful. Also enjoyed their rice and appreciated that it had some vegetables in it. They had a whole vegetarian section (some meals seemed vegan). It’s also a nice location - walkable from Monmouth park if you are parked there for the day, and it has a parking lot. It’s very close to seven presidents by car if you are down for a beach day. Went to Agave for dinner, we sat for 20+ minutes before anyone came to our table.

Ordered chips and salsa and guacamole and didn’t get the salsa.

Food took about an hour to come out.

Ordered the Carnitas tacos, when they finally came there were a lot of tendons in the pork.

We ordered the Mexi-Cali salad with a simple modification of having it in the tortilla shell. When it came out it it was incorrect as well.

Pretty much everything that could go wrong with this visit did.

We stopped here on our way home from the beach. It’s about 5 min drive off the beach. Food was good, but it came out all at once with our appetizer and kids meal. It should’ve been spaced out.
