I think I'm the first person to review the LB Poultry Farm here because no "local" wants anyone to know about it. I'm sure of it. If you live in or around Long Branch and occasionally or regularly buy rotisserie chicken from a chain, my only question is: why?
The LB Poultry Farm is like a small country store oasis somehow miraculously tucked away in our semi-urban, beach-town backyard. There, you'll find homemade pies, fresh local eggs (I believe they come from a Howell farm), "homemade" sides, and delicious, made to order local rotisserie chicken. You'll pay more than your typical chain store heat lamp bird, but you get what you pay for! Local. Fresh. Yum. No fancy fake flavor options. Just chicken. And guess what? It tastes like chicken! You know you're not eating something injected with fillers, etc. You're eating fresh, local, real food.
I always order the same thing each time I give them a call: a huge order of the coleslaw and a chicken. I also try to pick up my eggs from there whenever I remember. Last year, when I moved to the area and decided to find the "best of the local best," I became slightly obsessed with their coleslaw and happened to have a conversation about it with its creator, the "Grandmother" of LB Poultry Farm. She talked about her minimalist approach, and it's both evident and right on target. Light and super fresh, you'll encounter slaw that isn't drowning in mayo or salt. It's "just right." My good friend swears by their potato salad, and although I've never tried it, I trust her judgement (she was, in fact, the reason I was introduced to this wonderful place). Another friend of mine isn't into the chicken (although he swears by the sides and pies); he says it's "too dry." Frankly, and sadly, I know why he thinks this. He's used to, well . . . Frankenchicken. We're all exposed to overly processed chicken posing as "chicken." This isn't it. Like I said: It's chicken, and tastes like chicken! I mourn his palate. But that just means there's more for me (and I always make a stock from the carcass. . .there's always more for me.)
Bottom line scenario: you already know about this place and that its wares are great, and you're keeping it a secret. All apologies. I'm a newly established "Local," thus I write about these things. Or, you had no idea this amazing place was within driving distance. Don't drive to the chain or the mega big box grocery store. Make the call to Long Branch Poultry Farm. Order the chicken. Go there and add things to your order you didn't even think you wanted. Heck, while you're at it, you can even stop by the garden shop next door and pick up some plants. Like I said, this is a "country store" experience where you'd least expect it. And it's one of the many reasons I'm happy I made the...
Read moreBeen here 20+ times but always had a feeling the cashier Lisa did not like me very much. I would walk in with a smile/ be very friendly but for some reason she was always rude and obnoxious to me. The gentleman who prepares the chicken is a very nice guy as is Cathy. If he is the owner I wish him the best. But Lisa was so hurtful to me because I had a special request for my order (which costs more and I purposely came midday when the venue was empty.)Unfortunately I walked out of there with tears in my eyes and that's not necessary ever. I know not everyone likes each other, but during these challenging times you say thank you with a smile to a customer without giving them a hard time-despite the color of their skin, accent or whatever might be your issue. And the heavyset man with the white hair also behind the counter gave me the dirtiest look! I felt like I was in the deep South instead of Monmouth Cty New Jersey-so never again! Love to support local business. Wish I could...
