Visiting from Texas my family and I were looking forward to taking my grandmother to an authentic Italian restaurant. The restaurant was short staffed, which i was fine with as i was a server for many years and understand that happens. They were out of several items we ordered one of which they didn't tell us until right before our meal was brought to the table. The food was good and the service could have been better. My issue came when their machine would not accept my card. The lady at the register tried twice to see if it would work and when it wouldnt an older man (assuming he is the owner) started being extremely rude. He accused me of not having money which i had to insist that i did. I told him he should not be so rude to his customers when the dining experience was subpar. He kept telling me i had no money and he wasnt the bank and that he wanted his money. I was nice at first telling him the card should work as i have sufficient funds to cover our bill and then some. He continued to be rude and degrading to a paying customer. Unnecessary!!! Do not waste your time or money going to this establishment. You will have a better experience at Maggianos Little Italy where they are at least decent and respectful to their guests. *Notice how mature his response is below. The issue is not my card as again i have more than enough money in my bank. Despite your machine not accepting my card it was entirely unnecessary for you to be so disrespectful. Had you not been such a rude disrespectful man i would have calmly addressed the issue with my family. I should have read more of the reviews as this is not the first complaint you have had for being a miserable old man. You should not be in business if you are not in the business of quality customer service. Educate...
Read moreHole in the wall place for sure. I'd say I would come back for the linguine clams, or maybe the New Zealand mussels, or the shrimp scampi.
But the pizza though, maybe a touch overpriced for what you're getting. Inflation, I get it. But $23 out the door for a 12" medium Adrian special pizza?.. Canadian Bacon, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom and onion, thin crust. You'll have to get one and see if it's worth it to you.
I ordered take out this time. The pizza was ready pretty quick actually, maybe 18 minutes, less?
I think next time though I'm coming in here for some of the seafood dishes. I think that's where the value is. $20 bucks sounds about right for New Zealand mussels, linguine clams, Etc.
Don't expect anything fancy. This is a total hole in the wall. Your best bet here is probably take out. They do have a nice area in the back with maybe six tables or so that can easily fit four to six people each.
I'm sure it's a neighborhood favorite. They've been in business for around 30 years as of April 2024.
In conclusion, will I be back? Maybe? I think it just depends if I'm in the area, and wanted to get some takeout. But I wouldn't necessarily make a specific trip to this place to satisfy an urge or craving. Not yet anyway. Let me taste the seafood dishes, and...
Read moreI was surprised there was a proper Italian restaurant in the valley that was in the Van Nuys area. I went because I wanted Italian for my birthday but didn't want the fanfare of the ones in Encino, just wanted good food. I originally thought it was only a sub and pizza shop, but it hit the spot for that craving .
Dished Ordered: Bruschetta Bella Capri - Great starter, proper fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Their focaccia bread is what made it well since it was your typical store sheet bread Grandpa's Favorite - Honestly was my favorite. Seafood mix with their Cannelloni - Heavier on the meatier side Chicken Schnitzel with Marinara Pasta - Breading was perfect. Chicken Limone - Seek this if you are looking for a light dish. Recommend saving some bread to use with the sauce here to slipper the sauce (fare la scarpetta).
Adrian's wife surprised us with a Tiramisu, and I have to say it has been one of the fluffiest ones I've had in a while.
All the photos will have a blue tint, since there is a blue lighting in...
