Canby — Restaurant in Los Angeles

The owner seems to be the only one working. I've been here a handful of times before over the years for karaoke and the only things I remember were;

The bathroom typically stinks, absolutely wretched stench,

The service is extremely slow, expect to be ignored,

Owner/bartender will walk through the bar with a lit cigarette,

Food is greasy, but is surprisingly well plated and a decent size (so pick your battles)

Nothing is hyper clean in any sense of the word (check the heath code violations for reference)

The patrons are very friendly and you will typically have good conversation at the very least.

Essentially, what prompted my review after all this time was that, I definitely was refused service. They typically want you to pay cash, although they have signage saying cards are acceptable with a $10 minimum. Which I've done before. After waiting for who knows how long, I asked for a beer and was told I needed to pay cash, I let her know I only had a card. She shrugged her shoulders and walked away and did not return. A friend graciously got me the $3 budlight I was drinking, but never in my life have I had this happen before. Still very confused. If I do come for karoake again, I will definitely have exact change,...

Sunday night a the Canby, my friend invited me to check out a new Kid artist that is coming up, trustfully I didn't care to go see some new unknown rapper... but I did! we had a few beers, chilled got to meet "the upcoming kid rapper" the atmosphere was happening, cool spot to hang out on a Sunday night; the actual event start very late, I almost left... well to make story short, OmG this kid rapper by the name of "Ayala" rocked the spot, lit up the place, people literally were enjoying his different type of rapping, his fresh "different" very good, now I understand why my friend insisted on taking me to check out his performance. TRULY his going to be a STAR in the industry of Rapp music. Ayala this is for you, I know you probably wont recall my name but I am Liz's friend with the blonde hair "Carina" big shout out to You "Ayala" looking forward your next performance hit Liz up, let us know your when your next event will be... for I am a fan now Lol....you stoled the entire show, you made it your event Lmao!!! the Canby was yours...

To Canby Bar Management,

I had a very disappointing and unacceptable experience with one of your bartenders during a recent visit. As an artist who was performing that night, I expected a basic level of respect. Instead, I was insulted loudly at the bar simply for closing my tab a couple of times, which I did out of habit to avoid forgetting my card.

The bartender—short, white, and heavier-set—mocked me in front of others, saying, “That’s very dumb,” when I explained myself. This was completely uncalled for and unprofessional. I also felt racially profiled, as her attitude changed the moment she heard my accent. No customer or artist should be spoken to this way.

This kind of behavior not only ruins the customer experience but also damages your venue’s reputation. I will not be returning, and I will be sharing this experience with others in the community so they can be aware. I hope you take this seriously and re-evaluate who you allow to represent your business...
