I brought my service animal with identifying tags into Humble Potato to have dinner. When the host saw I had a dog with me he said it was a no pet restaurant. I explained he was a service animal and even mentioned I had my tags as the man was already rolling his eyes when I said I had a service dog. He told me he had to call his manager. We waited and when he got off the phone he told me they didn’t allow service animals because of their open kitchen floor plan that made them not allowed to have any animals on the property. I explained that ADA law requires people with disabilities to be allowed in to restaurants with their service animals and that service animals aren’t pets but was aggressively asked to leave. I went back a second time and asked if he would explain to me again why I wasn’t allowed to sit with my service animal. The host just looked at me with disdain and didn’t say anything to me for a full minute until I said I would seat myself to which he finally retold me that they have an open floor plan. He referred to my service animal as a pet and I corrected him. He rolled his eyes and told me I would have to wait 35 minutes for the manager to come and explain to me why I couldn’t eat with my service animal. Don’t worry I already reported this to the discrimination department of the DoJ and I recorded the entire second conversation because obviously ADA law protects people with disabilities from this level of...
Read moreI stumbled on this spot while working in the Venice Beach area. I love burgers and and could not resist a Japanese burger joint. As I entered the space I was immediately greeted by and enthusiastic and welcoming bartender named Lucas. Lucas is the kind if bartender and server that you immediately feel like you want to be friends with. After bellying up to the bar I noticed the ambiance of the clean and well designed restaurant. Ample bar seating as well as tables to accommodate the lonely traveler as well as families. The beer offerings are quaint but well chosen with support of local and regional craft beer as well as some of the best asian imports. Lucas suggested that I try the local amber ale from pizza port and it paired up well with my food. I had the Spam Musabi burger and it was arranged perfectly with fried egg, avocado, grilled Spam, Smokey bacon, crisp hash-browns American cheese, and medium burger with sauce all on a perfectly toasted bun. I got the garlic parmesan french fries that were cooked with some crisp and seasoned well. The burger was hard to set down it was so well balanced with all the flavors melding into something that you savored but craved more of with each bite. Alternating bites of burger french fries and sips of the Pizza Port Amber is a best practice. Im already planning my next visit so I can try all of these burgers. Go to Humble Potato when you are in the Venice beach area it will...
Read moreA fun japanese take on a burger joint. I love the cool, casual vibe and decor. The workers are always friendly and food comes out quickly. My only gripe is that there is a limited amount of seating. Oftentimes, parties of 2 hog up the tables for 4 even though people are waiting :(.
Now, onto the important part... the food!
BATTLE ROYALE - a delicious burger topped with a fried egg, avoado, and bacon? My mouth is watering as I am typing this. Sexy yet filling-- nothing is sexier than runny yolk oozing over this burger. Yum, yum, yum! Definitely worth the 8.95 price tag.
I also love the OTA SAN SALAD. The wonderful, crunchy texture pairs perfectly with homemade yuzu-viaigrette. I've only had the tempeh version but I am sure it is just as tasty as the chicken version.
SHICHIMI & GARLIC PARMESEAN FRIES - these are a must. How can you have a burger without these flavorful fries? The shichimi and garlic add a nice, subtle kick.
I've also tried the Yakiniku Sando wish did not live up to expectations. The Katsu Sando was better albeit dry. The burgers are definitely the standout. There is usually parking in the lot next door or on the...
