Update August 2022 The restaurant invited me to try them (again). The wait time is ridiculously long, floor was sticky, portions are reasonable, I ordered carne asada burrito and torta. While palatable, it's unfortunate that the muted flavor, lack of attention to detail, customer service, and the wait times place this restaurant on my CANNOT RECOMMEND list.
Update May 14 2022
I made a mistake on the pedigree, origins of this restaurant, for that I apologize. The rest of my review stands. I did in fact visit this location as verified by my Google timeline. Sorry folks as for now you need to step up your game.
El Gordo made a name for themselves when they were hungry for business. Unfortunately the quality of food has declined considerably. The wait times are considerable, which is unfortunate particularly considering the strong local competition which includes every mom and pop restaurant, pop up food vendor, and roach-coach uh I mean food truck. There is better, faster, cheaper Mexican food to be had at nearly every main intersection. While once an up and coming restaurant, they have lost their drive, I cannot...
Read moreNot bad but definitely do not go out of your way for this place. The food was dry and lacked any real flavor.
In response. Real flavor means that it tasted like bland meat, nothing special, nothing that would make me recommend this place. I had ordered three handmade tacos, one al pastor, one carnitas and one carne. The carne and the carnitas basically tasted the same and they are supposed to be from two different animals. The al pastor was grease covered which made it different. As the flavor is concerned the al pastor was just spicy grease on over cooked pork. I also ordered the Mexican nachos, which consisted of the same meat that was in the bland tacos. Also I asked for no cilantro but there was still lots of it in the nachos. I...
Read moreMy husband and I have been coming here for a couple of years now and yesterday (Sunday) we wanted some pozole. They were sold out. So my husband ordered a sopes plate and I ordered a flautas plate. My husband realized he had chewed on something weird when biting on one of his sopes. (We wished we would’ve taken a picture of it ugh) When I looked closer at what he had chewed on we realized it was a used napkin that was inside the sope where the meat was hiding it. My flautas has little to no potatoe on it. We decided not to complain and just leave. After that until this morning my husband has been dealing with nonstop diarrhea and getting a fever. Food poisoning….definitely NOT...
