Okay, wow... wasn't quite expecting it to be as tasty as it was. The four stars is based off of me having just been there only uno time--might change to five at a later point.
Went w/ a friend. From the street, it was kind of hard to spot. The signage is nice but should be more easily legible from a distance. It's located in a two-story plaza on the bottom floor (if I'm not mistaken, it's beneath a massage place--which we could see at a glance from the street).
Went in around lunch time, wasn't busy (sometimes that's preferable). I was a little skeptical about the flavor since it can sometimes be challenging to find a very tasty Thai place in this part of the valley (in NoHo or Hollywood, it'd be challenging to find a bad Thai restaurant).
We ordered the papaya salad, Mieng Kam, and mango w/ sticky rice. I was so relieved when I smelled the papaya salad as the server set it down--cause y'know, if it smells tasty, it's most likely to BE tasty :D And... IT WAS!! Phew! I know, this can seem dramatic but for somebody who practices intermittent fasting and prefers to savor her food, meals are a big deal!
Anywho...
Papaya Salad--yes, get it!!!
Mieng Kam--LOVED the friggin' presentation!! So cute and sophisticated... fancy :P I always appreciate eating shellfish since the hubs is allergic and I don't order it as much... oh, well... the things we do for true love, haha!
Finally, mango and sticky rice--I don't think I have to say much about this dish since one can't really mess this up unless one of the ingredients is just completely messed up in some way. The traditional Thai dessert came in a heart shape and the overall presentation is super nice, too--simple but nice! I think they could have provided w/ more mango considering they charge a pretty penny for it.
As for the interior--it's cozy and tidy! Love the wooden boards on the wall--that's the trend these days. Actually, come to think of it, I see it A LOT... hmm, getting kind of unoriginal... I digress...
Service was nice, too. Nothing over the top and met the minimum (better than bad service any day).
Will definitely be going back...
Read moreAfter a bit of searching out for Thai food, found this gem on Yelp. Went here with family in town for lunch.
It's a small place with a seating capacity of maximum 30- 35 and clearly family run. The decor was not very inspiring and a bit dark for my tastes but don't let that discourage you from trying it out. I know because we weren't disappointed.
Started off with my son's favorite Thai chilli chicken wings, and in my son's own words " they are pretty good, both sweet and spicy at the same time". I ordered the Meing Kam, and I was blown away by how delicious and yet how simple the dish was. Toasted and shredded coconut with caramelized tamarind with lettuce leaf and shrimp, the taste was typical Thai with the correct balance of sweet, tart and chilli.
We ordered Chicken Pahd Thai, Spicy Seafood Curry and they were pretty good. The seafood curry had the creamy, coconuty sweet flavor and was a great contrast to the spiciness of the dish. Pair it with white rice topped with nutty black sesame and you have a winner !! The Pahd Thai was great too !! My wife went with Drunken Thai noodles and loved it to bits. One thing that stood out was the presentation was unlike I have ever seen before. The American - Thai fusion works very well and kudos to the team !! We finished it with Mango sticky rice, and we couldn't stop digging for more !! A must try and shouldn't be missed at any cost. Service was great and personal. Are we going there again...you...
Read moreI was very impressed with this restaurant. Everything we ordered we really enjoyed. For our appetizers we ordered the crab cheese wontons. They were crispy and creamy and with their sweet and spicy plum sauce, it was a nice balance. We also ordered the crab cakes, which I liked. They were fried in panko breadcrumbs which gave it a good crunch and they were filled with crab meat, pared with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce with diced mango, it was the perfect combination. We ordered the wing dings which were really good too. The batter was crispy and sweet chili sauce was caramelized all over each wing. The pad see ew was good and so was the mango and sticky rice. However, the one entree that stood out and is my absolute favorite, is the bite-sized appetizer mieng kam. The layers of flavors are so amazing....
