I gave the course 2 stars because Wilson has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. But that's where the praise ends. Today friends and I arrived to play 18 and were informed that the greens were under maintenance. Strike 1. They claimed a notice was listed but I refuted that. I booked on Golf Now and it most certainly did not have a notice and they normally will when notified by the corresponding course. The attendant told me I should have booked on their site. Rude. Strike 2.
I asked if the course will be discounting the price since the greens are under maintenance and was told no. I said in jest, well can we get a golf ball? (A basket of loose balls were on the counter.) He said no. I said, what about a beer then. He laughed and said no to that as well. Strike 3. See the attached screenshot from Whittier Narrows Golf Course (another public course in LA county) for a look at how a golf course that is well managed handles golfers on days when greens are under maintenance.
In any case, we teed off. When we arrived to our approach shots we noticed the green was not only under maintenance, it was completely covered in sand and seed. It looks like a bunker. Literally. See photos attached. Have you ever tried putting on the beach? Gimme a break guys. I have no more strikes to give.
The truly sad part is that this course used to be one of the most fun tracks in LA. Located in Griffith Park and reachable easily from any part of town. Word on the street is that the Harding/Wilson Courses are some of the most lucrative public courses in Southern California. It's one of the hardest tee times to get. Where is the money going? It's certainly not on the Wilson Course. The whole thing was a disaster. Just look at the photos and see that this is not hyperbole. All 18 holes looked like...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend went to golf here 2 days ago. When we arrive the elderly white man at the counter told us it was too expensive for us, and said we need go somewhere else. We said kindly asked him not to assume we cannot afford the 60$ fee. Some of the other customers who had witnessed the unacceptable treatment spoke up and told him to stop harassing us.. He proceeded to shout at them, warning that he wouldn't rent out to them if they didn't keep quiet. While in line I assume something was off because when i smile at him he said I better smile. While I do not want to accuse him of microaggressions or racism, it was completely evident that was the case. Feeling insulted and uncomfortable by this clearly outdated racism, I noticed the white men behind us all spoke out about his behavior as well. Having the audacity to think I can be accommodating by such poor racial treatment I decided to make complaint to manager Paul Nason and to To my surprise, he told us that he was actually doing us a favor by renting us clubs after 4 PM. When we said it was too expensive, he suggested that we weren't going to be able to play long anyway and that we were wasting our money.. I asked him to explain the comment “ Do I even know how to golf” and Paul excuse his comments by saying you girls obviously new because more people want to play more holes and stay longer. Paul said he knows his character and he was being a grandpa to us. Paul obviously defended his prejudice and did nothing to try and make our experience better. Other than him, all the other staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We will try to...
Read moreFirst off I want to say the courses as far as layout and condition are great. The management and how they treat customers is horrible. First its very difficult to get a tee time here as it is everywhere. My first bad experience here i made a tee time the night before drove from San Diego to the course to get there and they double booked the tee time me as a single and a 4some. I paid and had confirmation and they turned me away did nothing to resolve the issue and get me out. 5 hours round trip very upset. I called today to try and get a last minute time and was told to show up and ask to be on a wait list incase of a no show or cancelation. I drive to the course from El Segundo and they tell me oh there's no wait list and would do absolutely nothing even if there was a cancelation or a no show in a booked 4 some. Very unhappy with this repeated problem. They also not enforcing 6 foot social distancing many people from different parties all standing closely some not wearing or wearing masks improperly by the proshop and walking around the facilities. Very unsafe. I golf 3+ times a week and have played at probably close to 100 different courses never have I been treated this poorly at all yet alone multiple times at 1 course. The city course is poorly managed by people with job security and don't care about the experience of customers. I have the rude managers name and will be filing a formal complaint with the...
