Restaurant El Michoacano — Restaurant in Los Banos

Stopped here for takeout on long drive from Fresno to Sebastopol. Last time I drove through Los Banos this place was packed and hopping which made me think they must be pretty popular. We couldn't stop at that time so I decided to check them out this time. It was mid afternoon. Arou d 230pm and only a few customers but I could tell by the interior decor it must attract a fairly hip and younger croud.

They were super fast and friendly. It took 5 minutes, just as they told me it would. Plus, they were super thoughtful to bring my food out to me since I was walking my dog out front.

I ordered a cheese enchilada with rice and beans and asked for guac and hot sauce. The rice and beans were excellent, as well as the two hot sauces they gave me. These core parts of Mexican are really a make or break for me and this place knows what they are doing. Very good! One of the hot sauces was heated up and the other cold - both flavorful and the smith ki d with out cilantro or chunks. The cheese enchilada was heavy but the red enchalada sauce was yummy. I didn't like it. There were four of us and when we got there the outside dinging had a table of more than four that had already been there. We didn't recieve a warm welcome. There were at least 4 tables on the patio that seated 3 but the hostess told us we couldn't sit there because we had one too many. But then she suddenly remembered a table in the back (way back) . I just thought that they could have pushed a chair and table together to seat us it wasn't busy at all. The food was simply food however the chalada beer that we had was bomb and very decorative! Kinda pricey for bland food. Probably won't go back..

I need to up date this one. I have been back several times. Turns out I love it. They have stuff not listed on the menu so ask if you don't see anything you're looking for. The waitresses are ok one of them will smile. They do take a long time to serve the food but that might not be their fault. Food is great!!!! We went because everyone raves about it. We got the seafood molcajete. We asked the waitress if it would serve 2 people, and she assures us that it would. The darn thing was 40 dollars, so we expected to have enough seafood for 2. It came without sides, and the molcajete was full of this tomato based sauce that had no flavor. Seafood wise there was 4 shrimps, 2 very small peaces of crab led, a bunch of onion tomato, and nasty chopped up squid. The squid was slimy. It was not pleasant to eat, and it was not enough food for 2 that is for sure. The service was just as mediocre as the food. The waitress came to check on us once in the entire time we were there.
