Herm's Smokehouse is a hidden gem for anyone craving some mouthwatering BBQ. The brisket is tender and perfectly smoky, with just the right amount of char on the edges. Their sausage packs a flavorful punch, well-seasoned and juicy. The jalapeño poppers are bomb!!! The sides are just as impressive. The rice and beans are comforting and flavorful, making them the perfect accompaniment to the smoky meats. The mac n' cheese is rich, creamy, and just the right balance of cheesy goodness. We also go some nachos—they’re a standout, piled high with toppings and just the right crunch. Overall, Herm’s Smokehouse nails the BBQ experience with a fantastic variety of flavors that keep you coming back for more. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in some delicious, hearty Southern comfort food.

Herm’s Smokehouse is a hidden gem in the RGV, and you cannot get better barbecue for the price. Previously I had tried their tacos and poppers, both of which were incredible. This time I picked up a special meal deal they had posted on Facebook, which had brisket, sausage, sides (rice & beans) and fixings. I also grabbed an order of their mac & cheese that somehow manages to be super flavorful without being overpowering or too rich. This meal feed our family of four and we still had leftovers to enjoy the next day. Everything we had was great but the brisket stole the show; it was tender and juicy and was just as good heated up in an air fryer the next day too. If you want some amazing BBQ at a great price I can’t recommend this place enough.

My wife and I came here for lunch. We ordered The Taste of Herms, which came with a leg quarter, rice, beans, sausage, and brisket. The food was alright, the beans were bland and the brisket was dry. I'm more disappointed in the portion size. We only got one 6in piece of brisket and a small piece of sausage. We paid $20 for the plate, I think that's a little overpriced considering what we got. We also got the banana pudding for $5 that the gentleman recommended. I don't think it was worth $5, but it looked good. When we opened it, it had a hair on the lid :(. Overall, the food tasted ok, I thought the leg quarter and rice were okay, but the amount of food that we got doesn't justify spending $27 for the two items.

Herm's Smokehouse feels like stepping into the heart of Texas barbecue culture—where tradition meets culinary artistry, and every detail whispers tales of smoky perfection. From the moment the aroma hits you, a symphony of wood smoke and spices, you know you’re in for an unforgettable experience.

The brisket at this smokehouse isn’t just food—it’s a revelation. Each bite tells a story of dedication, time, and unmatched skill. The bark, a crackling masterpiece, boasts a perfect balance of smoky depth and tantalizing spices. The meat underneath? Tender beyond imagination, with ribbons of fat melting seamlessly into the tender strands of beef, offering a richness that feels almost indulgent. It’s not just brisket—it’s an emotional journey.

But the magic doesn’t stop with the brisket. The sides are like the supporting cast of a blockbuster barbecue film—each one playing its part with flair. From creamy mac and cheese that feels like a warm hug, to potato salad that’s crisp, tangy, and refreshingly bright against the smoky meat. Don’t even get me started on the house-made pickles, which bring a delightful zing to every bite.

What truly sets this smokehouse apart, however, is the experience itself. The staff radiate a warmth that makes you feel like family the moment you walk in the door. Their passion for barbecue is palpable—they’ll talk brisket tips and smoker secrets with you like you’re an old friend. The rustic yet welcoming ambiance, with its wooden tables and walls adorned with local memorabilia, creates a space where you can’t help but linger. It’s the kind of place where strangers become friends over shared love for smoked meats.

Every visit feels like a celebration, and every plate feels like a gift. Herm's Smokehouse doesn’t just serve barbecue—it creates memories. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to taste love and craftsmanship, this smokehouse serves it by the pound. Don’t just take my word for it—go experience it yourself. You’ll leave with a full belly, a happy heart, and a newfound respect for the...

Herm’s Smokehouse is an absolute gem here in Los Fresnos. Their brisket, chicken, barbacoa, carnitas and sausage links are smoked to perfection and come with all the best sides—house‑made rice and beans, creamy potato salad, and mouth‑watering jalapeño poppers—plus you definitely don’t want to skip the banana pudding for dessert. If you’re from Los Fresnos and haven’t stopped by, you’re definitely missing out on what many people from all over the Valley and even upstate have been coming down for. If you’re passing through Los Fresnos, I highly recommend stopping by.

My personal favorite for breakfast is the David & Goliath taco. For lunch, I have a solid rotation going with the Brisket Nachos, Loaded Spud, Taste of Herm’s, the Last Supper taco, and I always need a little something sweet after - the banana pudding. And trust me—they do NOT hold back on the meats. Every time I go or send someone else to pick up Herm’s, it’s ALWAYS a GENEROUS portion.

Apart from the GREAT food, the owner and employees are all GREAT people as well. Joseph, one of the employees, always stands out in my opinion. He’s eager to take your order, patient in answering any questions you may have, and always maintains a positive attitude.

I take pride in those who step up to serve their community, and Herm has done just that—not only by sharing his passion with us but also by showing up when our community was in crisis. Thank you, Herm, and all the employees at Herm’s Smokehouse, for the great experience you share with us every weekend and for your service to those in need during the recent flood.

I hope our community continues to give y’all the love and support you deserve. May God bless Herm’s Smokehouse and all those...

I dont typically leave reviews but when I do, its because I was compelled to inform people about a product. Outside of the great reputation in the community, Herms Smokehouse also has exceptional quality of food to choose from. What you also notice is the quality of meats used to prepare his menu items. Today I had a Holy Roller, a jalapeño cheese sausage link, and a pound of barbacoa. The holy roller was amazing; decadent brisket with a perfect amount of melt in your mouth fat, balanced seasoning that allows the quality of beef to shine, crispy bacon, and awesome beans. The sausage link was fantastic, great balance in meat to fat and the cheese and jalapeño were proportioned just perfect for creamy, melty, heat. Last but not least the barbacoa... no nonsense here. 1 lb full of meat. No chunks of fat or swimming in grease like some other vendors, out of this world flavor and texture. Overall, I think Herms is second to none. The price point is in the vicinity of most other places, but the service and quality are what separate Herms Smokehouse...
