My wife and I recently saw reviews online so we added it to the places to try. We have been looking for a restaurant that actually serves “Chicago favorites”. We have visited several, but none of them have come close to being the quality we are used to. My wife and I are from the Chicagoland area so judging the quality won’t be hard. We grew up eating this stuff and were both foodies.
We were in the area and decided to give it a try. Walking it reminds me of a carry out restaurant form the south side of Chicago. To say we weren’t judging his establishment from the minute we walked in would be a lie. It has a small dining area and it is very clean. Easy to read menus and plenty of Chicago vibe!
We were promptly greeted by the owner who could tell it was our first time. I guess it was obvious. We looked over the menu and asked some basic questions. His response was informative and exuded confidence that his food was made with love. He told us we will enjoy anything we order. That’s when we told him we were from Chicago area and the conversation went on for a while.
We went all in. We ordered the two things we have missed the most over the last 6 years. We ordered the Gyro plate and a 12” Italian beef sandwich. We sat at a table and hoped for the best.
Let me tell you that when I took my first bite of my Gyro, I knew he was telling the truth that it was made with love! The gyro was the best I’ve had maybe even better than my favorite place back home. The tzatziki sauce or “gyro sauce “as we call it must be homemade. It was wonderful and complimented the freshly carved meat.
We opened the container that had our beef sandwich in it and it was quite the sandwich. It took up the whole container! Words can’t describe the pile of beef that was on that sandwich.
I have always liked my beef sandwiches wet. I mean it’s a Chicago thing right? A dry beef isn’t right. Sam’s beef brought me back to Chicago in the first bite. The sandwich was perfectly soaked in au jus. The flavor of the beef covered with mozzarella and the au jus is on point. I’m sensitive to spicy food so we asked for the hot peppers on the side.
I don’t want to leave out the enormous amount of fry’s that came with our orders. The seasoning on them was bold and exactly like you would expect from a south side grill.
If you’re looking for the best Italian beef and gyros outside of Chicago, look no further. I’m looking forward to our next visit already!
Attached are some pictures after we took half of the sandwich out of the container and I made my first...

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces from the staff and owner Osama. The customer service was exceptional, and it was evident that the staff took great pride in ensuring that their guests had an enjoyable dining experience.
The menu was extensive, and it was difficult to choose just one dish to try. I finally settled on the chef's special, and I am so glad I did. It was easily the best food I have ever eaten. The flavors were so rich and delicious, and the presentation was impeccable. It was clear that the chef had put a lot of thought and care into each dish, and it truly paid off.
But what really set this restaurant apart from the rest was the owner's presence and attention to detail. Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Sam’s in Louisville, Kentucky, and let me just say—this place redefines what an Italian beef sandwich should be. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and warm, with a clear emphasis on quality food and genuine hospitality. It’s rare to find a spot that feels like home on your first visit, but Sam’s nailed it.
The star of the show, of course, was the Italian beef sandwich. Perfectly tender, thinly sliced beef piled high on a fresh, crusty roll—every bite was an explosion of flavor. The beef was seasoned to perfection, with just the right balance of herbs and spices that transported me straight to the heart of Italy. The addition of their house-made giardiniera added the perfect kick, enhancing the sandwich without overpowering the natural flavors.
What truly set this sandwich apart was the au jus. It wasn’t just a side—it was an experience. Rich, savory, and deeply flavorful, it was the perfect complement to the sandwich. Whether you choose to dip it or pour it over, you can’t go wrong. Paired with their fresh-cut fries, this meal was as close to perfection as it gets.
Sam’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a love letter to Italian-American cuisine. The attention to detail, the passion in the preparation, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff make this a must-visit spot for anyone in Louisville. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out on a true gem. I can confidently say this was the best Italian beef sandwich I’ve ever had—and I’ll be...
