I don't get why this place gets good reviews. I have gone there a few times and I do not really know the hours of operation. But twice I went there around 12:30 noon and once the guy just told me they were closed when I walked in, though the door was open and the sign said OPEN. The second time the door was locked but the sign said OPEN and the woman came out to tell me they were closed. When I have gotten to a booth - it was after 12:00 noon - no one was friendly or even courteous. They brought a menu and I ordered the food and coffee - which was what I came for - and it was O.K. But nothing more. No friendship to go with the food. I liked the signs on the walls. It is very Irish and, being new in town, I thought I could connect with some of my Irish roots. There was an old guy sitting there one time in a booth wearing a Vietnam veteran hat and talking affably to the cook/owner. Talking with an Irish accent. Being a Vietnam veteran myself I wanted to connect with the Vet Center, which did not seem interested in answering my calls. and boldly asked him about the Vet Center in Lowell as I had been trying to make connections with them. He just denied he had anything to do with them or knew anything about them. nothing to say to me. Maybe it is just the way in Lowell - people don't want anything to do with outsiders. Or maybe it is just me. But I have been in restuarants in other places where people relate to me as someone new, not some who...
Read moremy sister and i went here this morning. the decision was last minute since vic’s was closed and we had never been here before. for context, my sister and i are brown skinned asian women. the second we walked in the environment was off. it’s not just the staff but it’s the other customers who eat there as well. it was almost as if everyone was disgusted by our presence and we weren’t welcome. our waitress didn’t make eye contact once, not a single smile and barely spoke to us aside from taking our order. when we did speak to her it was a nod or she would put her finger up. there was no greetings or goodbyes. the cook was the only employee who greeted us as we left which we appreciated. for this place to be located in lowell.. an extremely diverse town with a high asian/cambodian population. continuing to see and experience this treatment is distasteful and under no...
Read moreWalked in and sat down at the bar area. No one would even make eye contact with me or acknowledge that I was even there. A solid five minutes later I was apparently already supposed to know what I wanted because I wasn't offered a menu until asked. A simple "we will be right with you" would go a long way.
My eggs were cooked as I asked. Home fries were cooked well but we're just plain potatoes with zero spices. Corned beef hash look canned.
Was only mildly inconvenienced by the cash only policy but they did have an ATM. Prices weren't great. And I had an almost immediate need to use a bathroom after leaving which isn't a norm for me.
Average at best is my take. I...
