Van Leeuwen Ice Cream — Restaurant in Lower Merion Township

We ordered a milkshake and chose cherry chip. I asked the lady if that would mix well with the chips and she said that it would. It took ten minutes for the milkshake which was not a big deal, we took our kids to the bathroom. But when we got the milkshake it was SO THIN, almost like cherry flavored milk. I showed it to the ladies and they offered to remake it, which was nice of them. They did it again much faster this time. They even added extra ice cream and it unfortunately came back out super runny again. I’m not really sure what happened. If you tilted the cup sideways you could see the liquid slosh around. And the chocolate chips were all still at the bottom. The ice cream was good and I know they put extra in, but something is off with the milkshakes. For $11 (which is WAY more expensive than I expected, the screens were not working so there was no pricing or menu available for reference this day), I figured it should be at least comparable to something I would get for $5 at Shake Shack. I showed it to the lady again and she said they could make it again. At this point I’m not sure it would have helped and we didn’t want to waste more ice cream, so we just kept it. I’m not sure if all Van Leuwen locations have runny shakes or if it was a glitch here, but definitively just go for the scoops if you come. We will go to Shake Shack around the corner next...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely delicious ice cream and great atmosphere! I stopped by Van Leeuwen for a treat and left super impressed. The ice cream was incredibly rich, creamy, and full of flavor. I tried one of their seasonal specials and it was the perfect balance of sweetness and texture — you can tell they use high-quality ingredients.

The staff was friendly and the shop was clean and welcoming. I also love that they have a little incentive where you get a free scoop for leaving a same-day review — just a nice touch!

Highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth. I’ll definitely be coming back to try...

Great location and inside was very clean. I sampled an ice cream which was delicious, however the 3* comes from the milkshake that became of the ice cream I chose. There was too much milk which made it very runny, and for the $11+ I paid it was just so disappointing in terms of flavour, refreshment, and overall drinking experience.
