In my opinion few restaurants deserve one star ratings. Everyone has different expectations and we all make mistakes. That said, I would discourage anyone from patronizing New Deshi.
After unpacking my first order I realized chickpeas had been substituted for chicken. I called and. was initially directed to contact Grubhub for a refund. Then, they immediately called back to offer compensation on my next visit. Specially, an individual named Hassan asked me to order directly from them, mention what happened, and he’d throw something extra in the order to encourage me to return. I agreed to try again.
The next week I placed my order through them and left a note addressed to Hassan. I know it was received because my note is on the printed receipt stapled to my bag. However, no compensation or further apology was offered, and my order took over an hour to prepare without communication. I can’t help but feel like their attempt to compensate for their mistake was with a hope I would forget. Well, I didn’t. Mistakes happen, but dishonesty or (best case) not reading receipts aren’t conducive to driving repeat business.
Alright, one more shot. I ordered and picked up. Two items were completely missing, no one said anything to me about it, and they actually insisted the samosas I didn’t order were compensation. The problem is I was still paying for items they didn’t give me. The employee blamed DoorDash for not allowing them to contact customers. When I told him I’ve had issues through GrubHub, DoorDash, and their own site he smiled and suggested a request a refund.
Note; food quality is very mediocre. The special biryani and chicken saag were nicely spiced and reasonable portions. However, the veggie biryani was full of frozen peas, carrots, etc with ghee molded to the bottom of the container. The okra was also drenched in oil.
There are too many superior options in this area to ever order from New Deshi. You can easily find an alternative that actually cares about the food and...
Read moreAlthough I enjoyed most of the food we had ordered my overall experience in this "restaurant" was absolutely appalling. The experience equal to what you would find ordering food for take out, in which you order and they take it out to your table. Not once, in the hour and thirty minutes my family of 3 was there, were we asked how we were doing let alone how the food was. Before the "server" came to our table he was "assisting" another table, take down their order, but in the middle of the customer talking the phone rings and the"server" picks up his portable phone!! I was shocked! What restaurant does this?? When he finally made it to our table I had a few questions about the food and the answers, if you want to call it that, we're so vague. He couldn't describe the level of spiciness on mild or spicy. We first ordered out appetizers and dosa and said that we needed time to think about our entrees. After waiting about 15 mins until he came back to take our order, in which he never came in between to check how our appetizers were, I asked him if there was anything my 3 year old could eat that wasn't too spicy. He chuckled and said no. Yup, they didn't even have a simple kids menu. He suggested chicken fried rice which came in a a heaping plate filled with rice onions and cut up chicken. I couldn't even eat it let alone my child because there was onions in every bite! Last but no least after spending $75 dollars for 2 and a half people they had added a 3% "service charge"!! FOR WHAT?? WAS I ACTUALLY BEING SERVED?? 3%?? This was enough for me to never go back ever again. Oh and the "server" didn't even offer dessert! As we were leaving no words of thank you or, again, "how did you enjoy your meals?" This is most of the things that bothered me about this place e that I needed to write this review. They need to reevaluate their mission. I would rather do Chinese take-out than step foot in this...
Read moreMy go to dosa spot! Authentic indian food with scrumptious paper masala dosa and fluffy idli. Whenever I come home, my family goes to Dosa Hut and we leave with nice full bellies!
The paper masala dosas are the best, very large (about 2 feet or so) and crispy! The aloo potatoes, sambar, chutney are delicious and add flavor to the savory dosa. Since the paper masala is a specialty and so good here, I recommend getting it over the onion or rava dosa (which are standard and not as good).
I highly recommend getting the 3 Idli/Mendu Vada deal and going with 2 Idly and 1 Vada. The idli is very fluffy, fresh, and well-made. It's hard to find good idly as there are usually quite dense. The Vada is nice and crispy.
The weekday lunch combo for $7 is a pretty good deal for a small plain dosa and idli or vada. Even without the deal, it's only $10 for a dosa.
I also really enjoy the homemade ginger chai, just like the way my dad makes it at home!
Not only is the food great, but I really appreciate the genuine humble service. Every time my family comes here, we are greeted by a warm smile and delightful service. Typically, authentic (not fusion style) indian restaraurants aren't known for their service and your lucky if the servers crack a smile, but here the staff is always so friendly and nice.
I've had such a great experience with Dosa Hut that my family got our rehearsal dinner catered from them with a mobile dosa station and a variety of North Indian dishes (naan, palak paneer, choola, etc). I wish I took pics of all the mouthwatering dosas. It was a big hit, everyone enjoyed it! All the dosas came out crispy and were customized for each order. There were a lot of options to choose from with different types of batter and veggie toppings. I definitely recommend the mobile dosa station and catering (it's a 3 hour minimum).
Come hungry and you'll leave with a satisfied belly and a...
