Because we don't have many Bengali restaurants, I was very excited at first to find this. But after I tried twice I can say I am not going there again. Because the first time I got a response that after a certain date certain menu items will be available. So that day whatever experience I had (the underwhelming atmosphere, no crowd which is what my second experience explained why, and the smell of stale food waste at/outside the entry door, the house flies inside) just ignored and wanted to hope for better food, service, and professionalism because I thought it was just starting. And I wanted to support this business. Today I went again, I called beforehand to check the status of their menu. They said that there are menu items that changed in the thali that they promote so much. And the latest menu is on the website. But when we actually had our food, it was even missing at least three items compared to the 'updated' website menu. And the rest of the items that we got were not up to the mark. I know as a new and small business you may be struggling, but you need to plan well and commit only what you can deliver. Just to create a buzz, you advertise that you are going to give us the gourmet Bengali food but the reality is completely opposite. I assume it was a home made food delivery business turned into an idea of a full service restaurant which is why it fails. You need to be consistent first, at the very least.
PS: for a "Sunday brunch" (that's how they coined the term for their thali) they said can be available after 1pm. We went there at 1, it took 30-40 mins to deliver the thali after we ordered! Thalis are supposed to be ready to eat stuff and should be available just when you order. Even people on the only other table were frustrated as we overheard them sharing their frustrations on time to serve, the number of items, the...
Read moreThis review is for their catering service and not the restaurant. We first had food by Taste of Bengal at a friend’s place. It was their popular item- Kolkata Biryani. We were totally blown away by how perfectly they had recreated the authentic taste and flavor of the iconic dish, complete with meat melting off the bone and of course, the show stopper of Kolkata Biryani- THE aloo!
We had Taste of Bengal cater for an event at our home recently. Sabya curated a wonderful Bengali menu for us, and this time too, they hit it out of the ball park! The food was absolutely delicious! Every dish we had was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Our guests raved about the food and our special annual event was made especially successful and memorable by Taste of Bengal’s delicious dishes. I can confidently say that they are, hands down, one of the best caterers in town- especially for Bengali cuisine.
Keep it up Sabya & team! We wish TOB...
Read moreI recently visited Taste of Bengal, and every dish I tried was a testament to the skill and authenticity of the chefs. The Mughlai Paratha was amazing. It was a true reflection of the street food stalls of Kolkata. Equally impressive were the Fish Fry and Mochar Chop, each packed with bold, comforting flavors that surely made me feel at home.
But it was the Biryani that I really enjoyed. As a Kolkatan, I can say without hesitation that the biryani at Taste of Bengal is unlike any I've tasted in many places in this part of the world. The balance of flavors and spices is exactly what I’ve been searching for years —true Kolkata-style Biryani, where the subtlety of flavors speaks volumes. If you know, you know!
Overall, I can’t recommend this place enough—whether you're a Kolkatan longing for a taste of home, or a food lover eager to explore the rich flavors of Bengali cuisine, this restaurant is an...
