Pros: -Can be a definite money saver if you know what you're looking for, and know what you'd pay elsewhere. -Some of the store brand products are quite good. Only experience teaches you which ones (see the cons) -Snacks for the kiddos. Again, there's a learning curve, but here's a quick rundown: their knockoff cheez-its are great, as well as their store brand Pringles and chips (classic style). The store brand popcorn is trash, avoid. Store brand salsa (organic) is surprisingly good. -Cereal. The store brand options are great for cheerios, lucky charms, frosted mini wheats. Unfortunately their stocking of those is particularly erratic, even compared to the erratic stocking in general. (See cons) -Occasional spectacular meat deals. You won't find them on a regular basis, but when you do they can knock a substantial portion of your grocery bill
Cons -The "Lidle Guarantee" is a joke. There is no customer service desk, and generally only a single cashier, so if you want to return something, they make sure you're okay with feeling like a jackass in order to do it. You'll get to wait in a long line to get to the single cashier, then the cashier will have to put in a call to a supervisor with the necessary privilege to process the return, while a stack of other shoppers have accumulated behind you, absolutely loving the fact that you're making them wait while the person with the necessary code scrambles up from the back of the store to punch it into the POS terminal. It's an empty guarantee that they've ensured will only get applied to a small percentage of the items which SHOULD be returned. In case you can't tell, this is the largest downside to shopping here. -Some of the store brand products are so bad that you find yourself staring at the package going "what kind of inhuman abomination actually approved this product?!?" -They clearly run their employees ragged. The reason they've only ever got one cashier is that the other ones have to scramble and stock shelves, at the same time you're trying to, you know, shop those shelves. They only get called to the registers when there's a serious line, and even then you can tell that both the requestor of additional help and the person who answers that call are nervously aware that someone might chew them out for doing something customer-friendly.
In closing - There are staples which are, on balance, cheaper here than elsewhere, and of decent quality. There are pitfalls as well... If you see some quasi-exotic product that you're tempted to gamble on, don't. The customer service experience is non-existent, which reinforces the point made immediately above. If you're willing to run the gauntlet and figure out which products are winners and losers for you, it can be a valuable addition to your grocery shopping regimen, but it's never going to be a...
Read moreAn aggressive LIDL employee may attack you unmotivated because he doesn’t like you or is in a bad mood. The LIDL administration will not react to this in any way; any of your complaints and requests will be ignored, even if you are a regular customer with a membership in the LIDL club, contacts and an application on your phone, and you have not caused anything to the store or others. All you have to do is go to court or a consumer protection society, collecting papers and evidence, which is not easy, considering that video recording and photography even from phones in LIDL stores is prohibited for customers, this is indicated on the doors of the stores, please note. I had to call the police to protect myself, but even after that the LIDL administration did not respond. For all requests you are given a claim and promise number, nothing more, even after a month, no one will even apologize, my number is 01178485 and this will not help you in any way! You better know that LIDL staff can attack you with complete impunity, they won’t get anything for it and only the police will help you, but they won’t open a case if you weren’t maimed or killed, the rest doesn’t matter, they shouted at you, insulted you, swung at you and waved their hands in humiliating gestures, discriminated against as a minority - this is all normal for the LIDL network. This network does not ensure the safety and comfort of customers, even regular ones, and all you can hope for is luck, maybe you will be lucky to meet kind people working in this store, or maybe evil ones, if they didn’t show aggression towards you, this is luck, but not the LIDL rule and LIDL does nothing to protect customers from inadequate staff, and anything can happen! The network administration covers up the arbitrariness of the staff and complaining is useless - no one will even look into it. And only if the employee causes you physical harm, perhaps the court will help you. The chain's policy is that they would rather lose a customer, even a constant one for many years, than bother an employee. LIDL network staff are much more important than customers. LIDL staff is always right! This is their motto! There are too many clients - more than staff, clients can be neglected and not paid attention to them, not respond to their requests, not respond and not try to figure it out, no matter what happens! You will not be heard and all their forms of feedback are fiction - shouting into the void!! Pure formality to look decent. Their forms and appeals do not work. They will brush you off like an annoying fly and nothing more. You will not receive help from the administration of the LIDL network, no matter...
Read moreLidl in Norristown Pennsylvania. I had to call 911 due to aggressive and inappropriate staff. I was attacked by a store security guard for no reason, it seemed to her that I was photographing a shelf with vegetables, she didn’t listen to anything, screamed and insulted me, threw me out into the street, forbidding me to take the basket, and threatened me. She screamed at me - get out and never come into this store again, this is private property and I do what I want here, she screamed when I said that I would call the police, this only made her even more furious, and she said that she was the owner here and nothing She’s not afraid, she does whatever she wants and I can’t do anything with her. She even followed me on the street outside the store door. I had to call the police, file a report and enter the store to get my things and basket, accompanied by the police. Now I'm afraid to approach this store. Although before that I had been a regular customer of the Lidl chain for 20 years back in Europe and was glad that they opened in the USA! I have a membership and a client application on my phone! On a Sunday morning, while shopping in front of numerous buyers, it was a shock to encounter such a show. But you will be surprised when you won’t find options and addresses on the website, in the app or anywhere else where to file a complaint in such cases! The network does not provide measures against the arbitrariness of staff and the protection of customers from insane store employees. I'm going to sue them with a police report and contact the consumer protection society. I am 53 years old and this was the first time I encountered such an attitude in a store and was completely shocked, I had a panic attack after that. People write about products and prices, service, but here we are simply talking about the physical safety of customers in this store, when you are calm and polite, buying groceries on Sunday morning in a good mood, and you come across this from the staff called upon to provide service,...
